What makes you say that St. Louis is not like Baltimore, culturally?
the closest thing to south shore in the coutry would probably be somewhere in Brooklyn.
South shore's density is about 21,000 people per sq. mile and it's has a black majority.

Are you crazy? DC has a metro, tons more crime, tons more culture. It's filled with embassies and international students and employees. And you are comparing it to Madison Wisconsin? DC is also the 4th largest metro area in the country.

What does Madison have? One big college, state government, a few industries, some bars and a Taco Bell.

Madison? Stop playing. DC's subway has 900,000 riders a day and also has the third largest downtown in the country. Worst comparison ever!

They all agreed that DC is the hardest city on the East Coast to match with the Midwest.

And one poster meant that Madison might be the closest match to DC from any of the Midwest cities, and not that Madison exactly matches DC.

Why raise an uproar when there is no fire, or even smoke?

Do you really see any other cities in the Midwest that matches DC?

Nah, I'm pretty sure they're exactly the same. It's cool though.

...DC is a hard city to match up with, but Madison, with a difference of scale (population, federal vs. state), is not a bad choice. I also though of Indianapolis, which has state gov't and a larger population base, with universities, and Indy could claim to be the "center of attention" within its own state..

I could use some other analogies:

Burlington is the "NYC" of Vermont;

Denver is the "Los Angeles" of Colorado;

I am the "Chicago" of my living room..

Haha. More like Washington has the 3rd largest amount of office space downtown, 1/3 of which is occupied by the federal govt and the other 2/3 most likely occupied by ancillary businesses associated with the federal govt.

Lets try and keep it real here Finest.
