NOLA should be there for the mere cultural contribution to the South, USA and to the world plus its past economical prowness. I don't believe in kicking a city when its down. This city has all the tools to come back. Austin don't keep winning the top ten cities awards for nothing.

The 2 million was just a number I pulled out of the air. It's actually more like 1.2 million in 280 square miles. .

Wow, I thought Atlanta would be bigger than that. San Antonio has more than that within 300 Square miles, probably closer to 1.4 million. In 2000 San Antonio had nearly 1.2 million within 300 square miles, but then in 2004 the city annex 90 square miles of nothing for a large scale project called First City South.

Ok, we get the point. We have ignored Raleigh too long on this thread. After all, it is the fastest growing metro in the nation.

I say Raleigh should be considered for top tier 2 southern city.

Shouts out to the 'City of Oaks'.

As a North Carolinian, I am sooooo PROUD of our beautiful state capital. She has come a very long way in the past 20 years and it shows. I especially love the colors of downtown Raleigh at night. This city should be considered for top tier 2 southern city. World Class Universities. World Class health care. Word Class scientists. One of the nation's largest percentage of college graduates. This city also places in the top 10 of nearly every Forbes list and has done so for many consecutive years. The parks and greenway system in Raleigh is pretty sweet as well.

By the way...one person can't turn anything into a "pages long argument". Several people deserve the credit for that, including yourself. Congratulations again!
Please. Give yourself more credit, the train wreck didn't start until you refused to accept the truth.

Actually I'd put Orlando and Charlotte behind Tampa and NOLA behind them. I visited NOLA a few times before Katrina, and aside from the jazz festival I was going to and the French Quarter, I wasn't all that impressed. As far as that style of city goes, I like Charleston SC a WHOLE lot better than NOLA, and it's a Tier 3 city (< 1 million). Of those 4 cities, and I've been to each at least 3 times, I look forward to going back to Tampa/St.Pete most of all. Charlotte and Orlando I kinda look forward to going back to. I never plan to visit NOLA again.

Apparently you missed out on one of the best NOLA experiences...taking the St Charles streetcar out to Carrollton will take you through the Garden District, past Loyola and Tulane Universities, Audubon Park and other great Uptown neighborhoods. Despite the city's problems, the 'Crescent' area is gorgeous.
BTW, I wholeheartedly agree with you re: Tampa/St Pete, Orlando and Charlotte. None of those cities deserve the treatment they receive on the C-D forum.

Well, maybe so...it has been my observation that lot sizes in the suburban areas of Houston and Dallas tend to be smaller than in Atlanta.
