Ok, here is San Jose (similar climate/weather pattern as LA, few degrees cooler), near my parent's place. This is end of December. High of 60 degrees. Greenery, plus , see those bare branches? We have trees that lose there leaves too in CA!
And I know you guys equate snow for the seasons, but to a lot of us, this can be fun too.
Feel Christmas like to me, the only snow is fake snow haha. And ice in the outdoor rink. Brisk night probably in the high 40's low 50s.
I understand the arguments of both sides, but I think I would prefer NYC. I love variety and I find that too much sun is annoying. I like some rainy days here and there to bring variety.
That leads me to my next point. I am someone who needs variety. LA has very monotonous weather which drives me insane. But, that is for the coast. The San Fernando Valley is amazing though. The summers are boiling in the 100s and 110s while winters drop into the 30s. Also, they receive more rain.
Long Beach is an exception. It is very warm and has a beach--my two favorite things, making it my favorite place in LA.
I do always wish every winter that I could experience snow. I feel like I miss out on winter activities and the holiday spirit. I like precipitation...so...yeah...
Summer in LA is better, but overall, I think NYC is better. =\
Personally, for end of December scenery, I enjoy these colors and a mild 65 degree day with no humidity and a nice ocean breeze. Although I should add, this isn't Los Angeles, it is the Big Sur Coastline, Central California. But yeah, compared to this, I think 4 seasons are overrated. I mean 4 seasons can be nice, but there is a limit.
I lived in LA county-not Los Angeles--it was years ago but Im sure the weather is the thing that has changed the least in the last 20 years
I was born in NYC and have lived right next to the George Washington Brigde on the Jersey side for many years
Id rather be in the NYC area for 9 months out of the year- but> -Give me SoCal for Nov, Dec,Jan- - Christmas time felt a little weird in LA -but easy enough to get used to
New York City for Spring and Summer but Los Angeles for Fall and Winter
I chose New York City because its hotter than Los Angeles and although I hate when its cold I like when it snows but I can't stand the site of the dormant trees it starts to drive me crazy, even when it was in the 90s in April the trees had few leaves.
I love my NYC and it is the best city in the country under most measures, but I have to admit that LA eats us for breakfast here...
Having distinct pretty seasons is not nearly a good enough reason (IMHO) to put up with the brutally cold (sometimes sub-zero) winters and excessive heat waves in the summer.
Function over Aesthetics.
