pretty ridiculous post.
Bad weather I agree... But Moscow, Toronto, Beijing, Montreal, Berlin all also have bad weather (assuming you mean winter) and blow away LA as far as a functioning city goes. Weather isn't everything. LA is cool for what it is for sure... but lacks other urban amenties, good urban planning, etc. etc.

Homicide rates fall along East Coast

Reading is fundamental. Did he mention rate or number of murders?

And your second link...has a misleading title.

Math is also fundemental. How does Chicago with 508 murders have a "much better" murder rate than New York City that had 522 murders or Philadelphia that had 332 murders?

Chicago Population= 2,836,658
New York City Population= 8,274,527
Philadelphia Population= 1,449,634

chicago
508/2836000 = (X)/ 100000
100000 times 508 = 50,800,000

58,000,000/2836000 = a murder rate of 17.91 per 100,000

Philly

332/1449634 = (X)/100000
100,000 times 332 = 33,200,000

33,200,000/1,449,634 = a murder rate of 22.9 per 100,000

philly is more dangerous.

That is not "MUCH BETTER" like the poster had stated. Philadelphia's murder rate is reducing while Chicago's is increasing.

Haha....ok.

You were the original poster who said that Chicago was the murder king because it even had more murders than New York City.

I stated that actually Chicago only had more murders than NYC in 2003 or whenever, and then our rate fell by 25% in 2004 that put us at levels below NYC. I went on to say that NYC still had a much lower rate than Chicago because of its larger population.

I than said that there are still cities around the country with homicide rates higher than Chicago, like Philadelphia. In 2008 Philadelphia had a homicide rate that was roughly 28% higher than Chicago.

They're all true statements.

You were the one who said I made a comment that Chicago had a lower homicide rate than either New York or Philadelphia, which I never said, and that Chicago had a "much better" rate than NYC or Philly. I actually said we have a worse rate than NYC, and that other cities including Philly have a "higher" rate - which is true.

I don't see where the confusion is coming from.

Try 5% and improving while Chicago is increasing. I would not call over 500 murders like Chicago had, as something to brag about.

KYW Newsradio 1060 Philadelphia - 2008 Phila. Murder Rate is Lowest its Been in 10 Years?

Source?

Take it from someone who's lived in both cities. Philly can't hold a candle to Chi-town.

Here is your source:

I feel the opposite way. I dont think Chicago or the midwest can hold a candle to Philadelphia or the Northeast. I visited Chicago numerous times, although nice it is no NYC and for that reason in the same league as Philadelphia, Boston, and San Francisco, etc.

Chicagoans suffer from delusions of grandeur. It is a great city but you would think it belongs on the same level with New York the way they brag about the city. Truth is Chicago is a bigger Philadelphia with less trash more financial background, the loop and Lake Michigan. I've been there twice and thats what I've thought about the place. New York is eons above both cities.
