It’s just “black” celebrity. Lots of young people (including black) arent even fans of his content any longer, but to see ppl putting Nashville in front of Atlanta here is crazy. Only La and Ny beat Atlanta in this category in 2022, everything is filmed here. Miami may have sexier scene because its coastal, but it’s not as celebrity-centric as Atlanta present day.
The hottest and most cross cultural musicians are rappers now, not country stars… and they dictate the “cool”.
I made this point in other threads about Atlanta attracting the biggest parties about the Migos ( the rap trio) the equivalent ad the Beatles, and the people on these boards got so mad.
This is back when we hosted the Super Bowl, but this level of flash is pretty common here every other weekend. Celebrity and fast money filled parties. Are the older ppl on here really that out of touch with how much black entertainers trendset?
I think Chicago was more celebrity centric in the 80's and 90's than it is now, thanks to Oprah at one point living there and producing her show there, Michael Jordan/Scottie Pippen/Dennis Rodman Bulls, Jerry Springer was filmed there, R Kelly, and a few more. But I would have to agree Chicago has fallen quite a bit in terms of being a celebrity city, though there are a few celebrities who still have rep Chicago a lot. Bill Murray, Chance the Rapper, Kanye West, to some extent Obama. Most of the celebrities do have local ties of course.
It’s interesting though because it seems like a lot of TV shows in particular have been filmed in Chicago in recent years. Definitely not enough to have a “celebrity culture” but it does seem to be carving out a niche as a place to film something either set specifically in Chicago (i.e. Chicago Fire/Wolf Entertainment franchises) or whatever generic big city setting. It definitely has a very unique look that a lot of filmmakers find appealing (if appropriate to the story line) and I would guess it is significantly less expensive to film there vs New York.
If Twitter followers are any barometer (I'd say it is), Adele (27.6M) has 12 million more followers than Beyonce (15.6M). That's nearly double as many.
Instagram has 1.4 billion active monthly users vs 265 million on Twitter. How would Twitter be a more accurate barometer of fame when it has only a fraction of the users of IG and Facebook?
Even looking at Google Trends, searches for Beyonce in China have peaked well above those for Ed Sheeran. Adele was more popular in China than Ed Sheeran but still less popular than Beyonce. The only celebrities to give Beyonce any real competition in China have been Yao Ming and Donald Trump.
As the son of an immigrant, with family all over the world, I can assure you that saying Beyonce is one of the biggest celebrities in the world (perhaps ever) is not an "Americanized perspective of things." She's huge practically everywhere.
There should be an asterik by Atlanta to signify that it is big *black* celebrity city, but its not a big celebrity city for any other race.
My goodness.
Let’s map the logic here. The people that consume black entertainment are mostly white, unlike other cultures.. black culture is cross-cultural.
Analogously, Michael Jordan the largest branded athlete of all time, is that somehow knocked down because he came out of the NBA (mostly black)? The underlying assumption in that post is that black production is somehow second rate and needs not to be counted, I agree with another poster the numbers are what counts, not race…
And by the numbers, it just happens that black athletes and entertainers are more cross cultural and popular *pound for pound*… and Atlanta is hotbed for that in particular. Even outside of that, the amount of marvel production ( all of it present day) ensures that some of the biggest names in the industry have to be here to get things done. This is no small feat.
Add into that FX series like Walking Dead, Atlanta ( the show), etc. it’s undeniable to anyone with eyes that Atlanta only really trails NYC for the purposes of this thread.
I would consider Miami too just because celebs have properties there, but film and celebrity-type work isn’t intrinsic enough to the economy there for me to include it in.
No, only us pants-sagging and gold teethed black southerners know who they are. Like honestly, I really wonder what goes through the head of people when making comments as if black celeb needs qualification
Celebs are opening hotels (Pharrell) and/or restaurants here (Bad Bunny, Pharrell). Instagram star and restauranteur Salt Bae opened his first US Nusr-et Steakhouse in Miami. LA celebrity hangout and supper club Delilah is opening in Miami. Other popular restaurants and nightclubs are popular with celebrities on a regular basis:
On any given day just in my neighborhood (Brickell) I’ve run into a number of athletes/celebrities such as Lebron, Jeter, David Ortiz, Rodman, Kevin Durant, Bon Jovi, Aaron Judge, Arod, JLo.

I still think only a small fraction of the celebrities in places like LA and NYC ever visit Vegas on a regular or even infrequent basis. I would imagine most of them, like most of us, don’t find Vegas to be particularly appealing. And if they don’t NEED to be there, why would they go? I would say this is even more true for a higher level celebrity where the world is their oyster.
But of course, many celebrities do like Vegas and all it has to offer. I’ll also say that Vegas is very celebrity-focused as part of its tourism industry, but it’s also a lot of smoke and mirrors, much like Vegas itself.
Edited to add: But - maybe this is the “celebrity culture” the OP is referring to, as manufactured and processed as it may be.
Not an unreasonable take. But I still I do think the frequency with which a celebrity, of all levels/calibers, visits Vegas is gonna be far higher than the average person though. Don't discount the number of flies that swarm to the light that is a Vegas fight night, or more recently, Vegas events for the major league sports now that those floodgates have opened. No city hosts more conferences and conventions, and although it's a slim number, they do pull celebrities as presenters and sometimes participants, so that's a factor too.
I know a few people who work in hosting and nightlife in Vegas (yes it's a tiny number and anecdotal) and they sure take care of celebrities often.

I get all of that. If you were responding to me, I wasn’t knocking Miami. I’m just saying Miami celebrity presence seems more focused around flashiness or concerts, but Atlanta and Vegas have those things too without a coast. High concentrations of celebs being at parties together isn’t just a Miami thing.
I concede Miami is much more of playground for celebs and athletes in the summer , but to me that’s just not enough to Trump the business and production side of entertainment in the A.
Like I said, not a fan of Perry’s content anymore.. but his Gala a few years back was historical for many reasons. And attracted 100s of A-listers. I don’t think many on this board are aware of this:
This is to me what sets Atlanta apart from just pure flashy celeb places like Vegas and Miami.
