Miami definitely wins if you're into the club/party scene. I personally prefer NOLA due to the more easy going, it-doesn't-matter-what-you're-wearing vibe of the place. Plus, you can take your drink with you on the street! Not sure if Miami does that (?)
I would still put New Orleans in the mix. If you haven't figured it out already, I am a music lover, and New Orleans night life is more appealing to me than Atlanta or Miami. And in restaurants, I think New Orleans can give Atlanta and Miami a run for their money.
Sorry. I meant to put New Orleans in there too but it slipped my mind. I think, depending on what you're into, it's pretty much a tie between Miami, Atlanta, New Orleans, and Nashville. Again, with Miami and Atlanta taking a slight edge over the others.
Depends on what you like to do. I like funk and jazz music, so I would say New Orleans. I have never been out at night in Miami or Nashville, but I can imagine what the appeal would be.
Personally I don't like the nightlife in big cities. I prefer smaller places with good nightlife. I've had the most fun in places like Oxford, MS, Athens, GA, Charleston, SC, Savannah, GA, Wilmington, NC.
Actually, a lot of the nightlife in Atlanta is not necessarily hip-hop, despite what many might think. A lot of the popular clubs, especially in Midtown or Buckhead, play mostly house/techno/trance. Club 112 was a popular hip-hop club that closed. A lot of the clubs the DJ mixes it up, or have different types of music in different rooms. Also, Little Five Points is an alternative scene.
Overall, before the old Buckhead Village shut down, Atlanta could compete with Miami and New Orleans. Now, it's a different story. Midtown Atlanta has recently become the spot for nightlife, more than Buckhead.
He didn't really say that all of Atlanta night life is hip hop related, he just said the hip hop club scene is one of the best. There are more clubs like Opera, MJQ, and Door 44 among others that play techno, underground hip hop, and techno in Atlanta than there are strickly hip hop clubs, but thats not what Atlanta is known for. LOL... I know some people in Atlanta get mad when other people from other places only think of Atlanta as a hip hop city, but it is what it is.
Isn't Altanta the capital of the so-called "Dirty South?"
It ism, but pretty much exactly what JohnATL said above ^^^^
There are allot more techno/80's electropop/House/ clubs than anything else in Atlanta. And there are probably more gay clubs in Atlanta than hip hop clubs actually. Atlanta does have very large black neighborhoods and of course hip hop clubs will be in the majority in those areas, but in places like Buckhead, Midtown, L5P, Va-High and EAV (the areas that are known for nightlife) they are for sure not in the majority.

It's true that Atlanta has no shortage of nightlife; however, since the demise of the old Buckhead Village, there is no cohesive 'entertainment district'...it's very spread out. Miami and New Orleans have an advantage over Atlanta in that they do...(Lincoln Rd, French Quarter). Even Nashville has a concentrated entertainment district in its' downtown.

There are actually a couple of concentrated areas (Virginia-Highland, Castleberry Hill, Midtown/Crescent Ave, and Buckhead still has lots of bars)...but they are nothing nearly as expansive as Buckhead was a few years ago.
