Internationally, Dubai certainly wins this. So what's the point? In US it is less serious but the chances are if you have a skyline larger than your population base, it is very likely that you are over building, or your expectation of the city was too high in the past.

Gotta agree with you there. Internationally I'd also like to add Kuala Lumpur, Sao Paulo and Sydney to the list.

Honolulu real population is 909,863 because the city and county is consolidated. The city takes up the whole island! The census only take the population of the urban district. That is why the population is 365,000.

Well aware, it's my hometown. The 900,000 people are rather spread out.. and that's still not a very large metro at all. That's why for the urban district, the skyline is quite impressive. Heck it's impressive regardless of the population!

The whole island population is 900,000 and some of the people aren't
anywhere near the city of Honolulu.

Saying San Diego has more skyscrapers than its population is really throwing a jab at south florida's coast line with all those highrises.
Atleast most of San Diego's residential skyscrapers are condos and lofts.. not time-shares and hotels.

Oakland has a big skyline for only having 300k
