I had resided in Charlotte twice, once in the mid 1990s, again in the early 2000s.
It was nice, but even at that time lacked the urban feel that I was accustomed to ... and enjoyed.
Honestly John, a person living in Charlotte today could say the same thing about Columbus if they ever had to move there. Especially if that person lived 30 floors up in Charlotte and walked to his/her office uptown (as well as NBA and NFL games).
With that said, just say that you prefer Columbus over Charlotte because it is YOUR home and leave it at that. The urban argument would be a strong one if we were talking about Baltimore vs Charlotte. But Columbus vs Charlotte? Child please!!! Outside of downtown and High Street, Columbus is an overgrown truck stop just like Charlotte. Let's keep it real my dude. This is a "Truthful Journey" thread, is it not?

Frankly, I am appalled at your disquieting negativity and virtual attack.
This HAS been and it CONTINUES to BE an honest and very TRUTHFUL thread.
You've often come out in defense of Columbus ... "but now the other side of your mouth is talking"???
In the past, I've "seemingly" taken a few swipes at Charlotte ... because I had resided there on 2 prior occasions ... and I was well informed on what I was speaking about.
Now, I recognize the strengths and the pitfalls of both of these two cities ... and have stated such on numerous occasions.
Columbus and Charlotte are very much a viable comparison, often being compared for their levels of similarity in the press and other media outlets.
Rarely, have I ever heard comparisons between Charlotte and Baltimore ...
"Columbus and Charlotte are much, much more similar than the Baltimore and Charlotte example".
I'm not apologetic whatsoever to someone like yourself, especially as you make an attempt to turn what has largely been an informative, well balanced and positive thread into another ridiculous and asinine "war of words".
That isn't what this thread is about!
Like I've stated before; I could live in both and be quite happy.
And yes, Charlotte and Columbus both are major players when it comes to trucking. That's not a bad thing ya know. Trucking is one of those jobs that can't be moved overseas. That's a good thing.
Here are a few photos of the "MAJOR SNOW STORM" that is creating HAVOC in Columbus today ( 2/05/10 ) ... and across much of the middle atlantic states ... possibly including Charlotte. These photos were taken along high street, in Columbus' trendy Short North district.

I'm not convinced that I'll still be in Columbus by the year 2015, as my career may involve relocation ... it's nice to see though, the optimism and the foresight of this great community. Here's an interesting video of what Columbus will resemble by the year 2015 ... enjoy! 10TV Video - WBNS-10TV, Central Ohio's News Leader
IMHO...over time..I'd say Columbus...I think Charlotte has had it's "heyday".
And how is that? Charlotte's "heyday" is far from over!
