Keep in mind that Dallas has been growing at a faster rate than Philadelphia. Philadelphia has been the traditional "#4" city in the country, while Dallas has risen to a much larger city over the last few decades. The area was among one of the fastest growing from 2000-2009 for a reason. The Delaware Valley's population is growing slower.
A number of corporations got their start or relocated to the DFW area due to the business-friendly environment of Texas. So there is obviously something to the area that attracts it to many. I know this seems to upset you and many of the other Philly posters on this board a lot, but it is what it is.
It really boils down to personal preference. There are those who prefer the Sunbelt and there are those who prefer the Northeast.
How does this upset me? I said they are both pretty comparable and yes it is on personal preferance as to which one many would choose. I have zero issue with anyone choosing where to live or work or move. Obviously many people make differnt choices and TX has been very business friendly.
In terms of growth yes TX is growing fast all over - and the climate and business environment really help that. The Metroplex is large population wise and area wise. Philly is more dense and has more of an urban core. Population wise they are pretty close on census measures some in favor of one and some in favor of another.
And yes you are right some people prefer one environment over another. The NE has Density and older cities the Sunbelt has growth and more expanse. I like the NE but again it is what I know and where I and my family are (that is important to me) from. I also like the vibrancy and larger population concentration and history. I like living in an area where there are 30 million people in a 100 mile radius. I believe it adds to the vibrance but I also know many people prefer the opposite. I also can see how many people would like Dallas, I actually like Dallas.
This choice is what makes where we all live great and part of great country. Both Dallas and Philadelphia are great assets to the country and our country overall is better for both cities and all the choices we have.

+1 Respect to you KidPhilly.
I didnt mean to cause offense with my earlier post.
Both Dallas and Philly play very important yet very different roles. That should not negate how great yet different these places are. Alot of these topics (like food and shopping) are so subjective, its impossible to tell which one is really better.
I dont see how anyone can really be right or wrong but their preferences.
