Good news for I-795 and I-42. Projects on those two corridors have been added to NCDOT's draft 2018-2027 STIP on the division level.

https://apps.ncdot.gov/NewsReleases/...s.aspx?r=13370

I-795:

Quote:
Upgrading U.S. 117 from Lee’s Country Club Road to Old Smith Chapel Road in Wayne County by constructing a new connector road along U.S 117 and converting the intersections to interchanges
I-42:

Quote:
Upgrading U.S. 70 to freeway standards from the west end of the U.S. 70 Bypass to the Wayne-Johnston county line by eliminating at-grade intersections and driveway connections, which will improve traffic flow and safety

Man, I'm glad the plan changed. It makes better sense for an interstate to run the entire freeway length to Zebulon and is better suited as an I-x87.
I am surprised an Interstate 595 designation was not pursued at the same time as Interstate 495.

If the decision to create a Raleigh-Norfolk interstate (I-87) had not came about and I-495 had been made permanent between Raleigh and Rocky Mount, I-595 between Zebulon and Greenville would've likely happened.

The I-595 number itself didn't bother me, it just made more sense IMO to have US-264 become a spur of whatever interstate number that was assigned to US-64. Since US-64 will eventually become I-87, I-587 is a better number for US-264 than I-595.

The other thing about the original plan that didn't make sense was that the US-264 interstate plan would've only ran from Greenville to I-95 in Wilson. Greenville still wouldn't have had an interstate connection to Raleigh. As I said before, I'm glad things changed.

The Federal Highway Administration has approved the Record of Decision for the US-70 Havelock Bypass. The bypass will be built to interstate standards and will eventually become part of I-42.

Can we expect a dual concurrence of Interstate 795 and Interstate 587 from Interstate 95 to Interstate 795's southward split in Wilson?

Yes. That section of I-795 will remain on US-264 even after I-587 is fully signed. It's the only way I-795 can connect with it's parent (I-95).

Assuming the same path will be used.

So the big sections left would be Kinston, Beaufort/MHC, James City/New Bern, and Smithfield, I believe.

That's about the size of it. The existing US-70 Bypass near Selma will become part of I-42.

This is proposed Greenville circle loop, but I wish the southern part was a little bit smaller.

This map is outdated, so I'm not really caring about it.

Does anybody know if "Future I-587" signs have been posted along US-264 yet?
