More good news for Quad East. NC-11 has been included in the STIP. It will be upgraded to interstate standards between the future NC-148/Harvey Parkway extension and the Greenville SW Bypass. Construction to begin in 2027.

(I would post a link, but my android phone keeps messing up.)

Have they finally decided which way the bypass is going around Kinston? North or south of the city?

It's going south of the city and the "Shallow Bypass" alternative is heavily favored. No concrete decision has been made yet, however. Details on this alternative can be found here:

https://www.ncdot.gov/projects/kinst...ingHandout.pdf

The northern alternatives were eliminated in January 2014 because it was determined that it would be out of the way for thru traffic go around north of Kinston and would do nothing to relieve traffic on existing US-70.

Awesome news. That would pretty much complete Quad East.

Now if they could just connect Kinston / Kenansville or Kinston / Wallace with a 4 lane highway (preferably interstate standards) that would be a great way to connect Wilmington & Greenville & Norfolk

AT is going to have interstate access to the GTP he can use to sell it, something that it has lacked since its inception. As michealbond mentioned, if he can get int access to the Wilmington port that wouldn't hurt either. What is rail access to GTP like?

NCDOT has awarded a contract for converting two intersections on US-117 (Future I-795) into interchanges, one at Oberry Road in Dudley and one at Country Club Road just north of Mount Olive.

Goldsboro News-Argus | News: Road project moves forward

Quote:
Work could begin as soon as the end of July on a $21.5 million contract to construct interchanges on U.S. 117 South at O'Berry Road, Dudley, and at Country Club Road, Mount Olive.

S.T. Wooten Corp. of Wilson was low bidder at $21,573,864.42 -- some 8 percent below the estimated cost of $23,445,976.53.

The award letter to Wooten was given this past Tuesday.

Oct. 1, 2019, is the scheduled completion date with the exception of planting, reforestation, or the permanent establishment of vegetation, he said.

It would be open to traffic at that time, Page said.

The final completion date is March 29, 2020.

Any utility work should be completed well before to July 31 so as not to delay the project, he said.

Work is nearly complete on a water line relocation at Country Club Road. The line had to be relocated south so that it not be under the footing for the overpass.

Because of U.S. 117's proximity to U.S. 117 Alternate, the overpass will take U.S. 117 over Country Club Road.

Two bridges will be built, one for each direction on 117.

The project at O'Berry Road will take that road over U.S. 117.

The interchange at O'Berry Road and U.S. 117 South will eliminate the only traffic light south of U.S. 117 at U.S. 13 all the way to Interstate 40 in Sampson County.

While it has not been funded or received final approval, upgrading U.S. 117 from north of Country Club Road to south of Genoa Road near the Wayne County Fairgrounds -- the future Interstate 795 South corridor -- is included in the state's next draft 10-year transportation plan.

Also, U.S. 117 from Lee's Country Club Road to Old Smith Chapel Road would be upgraded to freeway standards under the plan.

That project would include constructing a new connector road along U.S 117 and converting the intersections to interchanges.

The plan is scheduled for adoption in August.

What is a reasonable guess as to when the rerouting of 117/795 thru Goldsboro will be done, 2023?

Probably not until the late 2020's. Alternative 4A in this 2015 feasability study is favored by Wayne County and NCDOT. Bear in mind that US-117 will not change alignments, but only I-795 will be signed on the new alignment between NC-581/Ash Street and US-117 just south of the fairgrounds.

Looks like NCDOT is wanting to put a superstreet at the intersection of NC-50 and US-117 Connector (Future I-795).

Quote:
State Transportation officials will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, July 25, for a proposed superstreet improvement project at the intersection of N.C. 50 and the U.S. 117 Connector in Duplin County.

A superstreet, also referred to as a “synchronized street”, reduces improves safety and delays by eliminating left turns from side streets and allowing drivers to make U-turns at a safer location.

The public can view a map displaying the location and design of the project online at http://www.ncdot.gov/projects/publicmeetings/.

The meeting will take place in Faison Town Hall at 100 N.E. Center Street from 5 to 7 p.m. Interested citizens may attend at any time during the meeting hours, as no formal presentation will be made. NCDOT representatives will be available to provide information and answer questions. The opportunity to provide written comments will also be provided
It's a total waste of money IMO, since NCDOT will have to come back and tear it up later when they convert that intersection into an interchange in order to extend I-795...

Meanwhile, regarding the I-42 corridor:

https://apps.ncdot.gov/newsreleases/...s.aspx?r=14041

Quote:
RALEIGH– The N.C. Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting on Friday, July 17, regarding proposed improvements along U.S. 70 between Swift Creek Road and Wilson’s Mill Road in Johnston County.

The project will convert U.S. 70 intersections with Swift Creek Road and Wilson’s Mill Road into interchanges. Access to properties along the highway will be provided by service roads that will be part of the project.

The meeting will take place at Wilson’s Mills Elementary School-Cafeteria, 4654 Wilson’s Mills Road, between 4 and 7 p.m.

NCDOT representatives will be available to answer questions and listen to comments regarding the project. The opportunity to submit written comments will also be provided at the meeting or via phone, email, or mail by July 31, 2017. Comments received will be taken into consideration as the project develops. Please note that no formal presentation will be made.

Looks like I stand corrected regarding the effect that a superstreet at the US-117 Connector/NC-50 intersection would have on I-795's extension. I looked at the feasibility study again and Alternative 1A has I-795 leaving US-117 Connector just north of NC-50 on a new alignment to a new interchange with I-40 south of the existing Exit 355, so this superstreet project should have no effect on I-795's extension.

Since Enviva built a wood pellet manufacturing plant at Exit 355 over a year ago, NCDOT pretty much has no choice but to build a new location I-795/I-40 interchange.
