These people are my friends and I like them but they are all a mess. I just have to point it out. I'm not saying this is true of all people in the profession, just the people I know.

Also, these nurse friends of mine don't even know each other or work with each other so it's not an isolated incident.

I wonder what attracts such unstable and insecure people to nursing?

Out of my friends, the ones that have their **** together are in pharmacy and business (advertising, management, and HR). The ones who went into Social Work and Education also seem to be mentally stable but they seem to have a growing cynicism in their outlook.

The funniest woman I know? She is in education, early childhood education.
I am a nurse and agree with you. I believe that many (not all) nurses have the " I must save the world" personality and are constantly looking for approval. I know plenty of nurses that put their patients before their own families because they get recognized more frequently from their patients. This proves to be unhealthy for their personal relationships and I seen too many divorces because of it.

I am a nurse as well and also agree with this. Too many mentally unstable people enter the profession and the most frightening part is seeing these unstable nurses get promoted into positions of power.

I am actually looking through resumes right now for an open position on my unit and I'm becoming less concerned with education/experience and more concerned with hiring someone who is a right fit because I've hired several over the years that interviewed well and looked great on paper but ended up having one or more mental or emotional problems that clearly disrupted the unit and interfered with patient care.

I am currently a nursing student who is struggling in the program. I have bee in it for the past two years and just started clinicals and I love but I have trouble with passing the tests. I think it might be time to switch to a different major, and I have been looking into paychology and thinking about going back to school to try nursing again. I need some advice on what to do? Because I enjoy nursung but I find myself getting burnt out!!
