As far as transients, the soup kitchen, shelters, and pan handling opportunities attract them. The marijuana laws have attracted a lot of unmotivated people as well. I am not against legalized marijuana, and believe it does have medicinal benefits, but it does draw a lot of unproductive people.

Colorado in general has always attracted people here with the desire to make a better life for themselves in an environment of beauty that is full of opportunity. Its been that way for 150 years and now is no different.

Similarly, with that migration has also come a percentage of the population without the skills or where with all to survive after the reality of living here has set in. My uncle told me when he was a boy, way back in the 1950s, how family members warned him and my father against playing down by the creek next to the railroads tracks because the hobos might take you away. Tracking riding homeless were found nearby in the era. Prior to that, during the 1930s, Colo Spgs was home to two separate CCC facilities during the depression. One was in between the current UCCS campus and Palmer Park in the valley occupied by Union Bvld and one was far east near Sand Creek and Cimmaron Hills.

To say we have all these homeless because of weed and shelters is a bit of a stretch. Sure some came for weed, but not all. They came because they hear about low unemployment figures, they hear of hiring shortages, and they bring preconceived notions that CO is like where they came from only with mountains and paychecks. They think life is easy here and the reality is it is no easier than anyplace else and it is more expensive than many places. They don't check forums like this for a reality check before packing up the car and heading to the mountains. They get here and reality is starkly different.

Blaming the homeless problem on weed is getting old. It's been a problem for many years - way before the pot shops were here. And anyway, I thought this was a thread about the poop thing?

And we've known that ... oh, since before Prohibition ... about 90 years ago.

What a strange question. I'm drawn to Aspen and Maui.
