Went to a concert in New Haven and, driving around, was reminded at not only just how much development is happening, but how much more will/can be developed. There doesn’t seem to be anything stopping its growth.

Agreed for New Haven. The apartment, biotech, and other commercial development is in a really good place for New Haven something we would not have seen in decades past. Also something we didn't see as much in the past and that bodes equally well for quality-of-life are the examples of individual entrepreneurs and the spaces that are being created, that all are part of making a city vibrant. Recently opened, or currently under construction we have social places and storefronts ie, Armada Brewing creating a home in a historic structure; Gather coffee/performance space that quietly opened; Strange Ways relocated/expanded into downtown; a new Jazz/supper club just opened on So. Orange St, People Get Ready Bookstore is becoming a destination, a new English soccer-supporting pub- the Cannon- opening soon in Dwight, and also an array of Black-owned and LBGTQ-owned businesses that have sprouted. One thing that I could see potentially impacting New Haven's growth is if we don't get the affordable housing issue addressed. I am glad to see the mayor announced that creating affordable housing is a priority now and there are various active groups working to ensure more affordable housing units get built.

I just love these kinds of historic building to housing conversions in New Haven. I haven't seen this mix of historic preservation and new housing being so in a city of this size.

"Ben-Horin, a retired former printing company executive, also owns the apartment building at 831 Whalley Ave. in Westville. He said he lives in Manhattan, and comes to New Haven at least twice a week."

“I kind of fell in love with New Haven,” he said. “I like how everything is walkable. I’m not a big fan of cars. I like how you have all these nice coffee shops. People are extremely friendly.”

He said that the “mix of working-class people and Yale people” in New Haven “creates a sort of dynamic” he hasn’t seen anywhere else in the world. As for the architecture in New Haven, he said, “It’s almost like taking a trip to Europe without taking a plane.”

It’s good to see Yale stepping up to the plate. For decades the school ignored the city but once they realized it’s in their best interest to invest, everyone profits. There’s no doubt the city is on the rebound and that reflects well on the university. Jay

It’s about time this empty lot was developed. It’s in a very good location in a good neighborhood.

Hotel Marcel, the new hotel in the iconic Armstrong Rubber Building on Long Wharf, is set to open in April. It’s not the best time to open a hotel but at least the building is saved. Jay

New Haven has a hotel shortage, so I’d bet they will do just fine.
