Most likely more incentives. Other states dont mind throwing out money or lowering taxes for these big companies. If ct was to do that ct would be a top dog. Because it being so close to nyc many companies would probably relocate bringing thousands of jobs

He has no idea what he's talking about.

It's just typical Corp consolidation/restructuring. It's not about moving to Boston/NY or the jersey shore just to be cool and hip.

Some good news! Bottling plant in Bloomfield hires 66 full time employees and will grow that number to 80. Starting pay is $15/hr. https://www.google.com/amp/www.coura...story,amp.html

Not to be a downer because anyone who works deserves the utmost respect but from the past two days the "economy" strikly looking at income tax. We are losing 700 well paying jobs and replacing them with 66 mid to low wage jobs with still a loss of 634 positions.

Just interested to see the labor report tomorrow.

CT should create a Living Wage to replace State Minimum Wage. Probably a lot of businesses would exit the State. It would also encourage the State to work towards retaining businesses by lowering COL by lowering taxes.

Nor a living wage or a state minimum wage should even exist. Nobody including the government can tell a company on how they should operate a business. Jobs aren't created by the government at all. They're created by the private sector. If a business has $30 to spend on its employees and you're paying them each $10 an hour, once you raise it to $15 then someone will have to get fired. Every time you raise the minimum wage then there is a small spike in unemployment and it really destroys the communities that need those jobs the most. While I do agree that taxes should be MUCH lower in the state, with the amount of money that our state owes through benefits, they're not looking to make less money. The state needs to keep that promise and pay up.

Small businesses are usually counting dimes because their budget is so tight to begin with. Seattle which has the highest minimum wage, also has the highest teenager unemployment rate because small businesses don't have the money to hire more workers. But what constitutes a living wage? $15? $50? Why not $100. I'd love to fight for $100 an hour so eventually people who are for a higher wage will see how it'll effect the job market.

Why do people always forget the good news like the thousands of well-paying jobs being added at Pratt & Whitney, Electric Boat and Sikorsky as well as their support services and suppliers. And why do people here demean the low paying jobs that will go to the working class. They need jobs too you know. Jay

The problem is that people are frustrated, like myself, that these job loses could be preventable. It's good that jobs are being created but this all ties back on lost tax revenue. Good paying jobs are good for our income tax receipts and since jobs like these are being replaced by lower paying jobs, our income tax revenue will only get smaller and smaller.

Time for a Malloy press conference to crow about that.

Did anyone else see this? This is the division of GE that has been in Plainville for a long time. They had also started a big research center at UConn. Hope this does not portend cuts down the line under whatever new ownership comes along.

The Plainville location has been running a skeleton crew for at least the last 20 years. So I don't think this will have much of an impact in the area. Perhaps other locations in CT will be affected more, but I'm not very familiar with this division of GE.
