You raise the minimum wage to $15 when the median hourly wage is only about $16 you will destroy all the remaining jobs in CT.

We are already losing companies by the thousands due to high taxes, do you see the connection?
I think the Dems in particular are for the minimum wage hike because if you make more money, you pay more in taxes. Malloy claims he wants to raise the minimum wage once again to lift people out of poverty, but raising it by a few dollars isn't going to do any good. Why not lower taxes and regulations so it'll be easier to open up your own business? You can't be pro-business until you realize that the private sector create jobs, not the government.

To answer this and Henry10's post, I don't see that Congressmen have all that much influence on the state economic climate, with the exception of bringing federal money in, and supporting the large defense sector in this state. They're more concerned with national issues. I don't see that losing one of our current total of 7 members of Congress will hurt the economy here. The remaining ones can continue to support the defense industry as before. And I don't know how much "power" a representative has---in fact all 7 of ours will be in the out-party for a while, I don't think Himes or DeLauro is going to cut a lot of ice around DC anytime soon.

It appears that Rhode Island will lose one of its two representatives in the 2020 census--will be interesting to see how that plays out for the state economy--not a big deal I think.

It is losing 2 in 8 over the span of just a few decades. 25% of the Ct DC power in Congress.

I think this was talked about a few weeks back but Trader Joe's looks to going to build a massive warehouse in Bloomfield. They had narrowed it down to two sites, one in New York and one in Bloomfield. It looks like the Bloomfield site has won. Good news. And before our naysayers start complaining, this is good news because not every job can be high paying. Other people need jobs too. Jay

This is great news. To have such a large distribution facility being built is perfect. The location is spot on.

Now, if only they had asked Trader Joe's to build more stores in Connecticut, that would be a good deal. Having only one in the Hartford area is tough.

Yeah I would love for them to open one in Glastonbury. Not sure where though since there aren't many vacant stores large enough in town. Even Wethersfield, Rocky Hill or Manchester would be good. Not sure why they aren't considering it. Maybe this will help. Jay

That area (Windsor, Bloomfield, East Hartford) reminds of Harrisburg PA. Lots of Distribution Centers, easy highway access to New England markets. CT has got a good thing going. I just hope that CT politicians will not drive them away with increasing taxes, MW bs, regulations, mandates, as usual.

You also can feed your children if you make more money...

Entry level post-bachelor degree jobs will become the new minimum wage jobs. Indeed, a step backwards for the state. My first job out of college was making 15/hr as a research assistant doing multivariate analysis for the sensory science lab of a major US personal care company based in CT. No, a clerk at McDonalds should not get paid that much with zero experience.

Tomorrow the minimum wage in CT goes up to $10.10 an hour

This is close to the highest in the entire country and is going to be another job killer

The welfare spent per hour is even higher at about $22

Welfare Payouts Top $20 Per Hour In Eight States

So why work?
