Fairway is further east, in Harbor Point. It was dumpy and industrial back in the day, but I don't know if I would have called it ghetto.

I was down there for an event for a few years and told not to walk to Fairway from where we were a couple of blocks alway. Next time I drove there first. Do you think there aren't any sketchy areas in Stamford?

Stamford has many gritty areas that look just as bad as New Haven's bad areas, quite frankly. Norwalk has some too.

I too love fairway, but it's still not in an area I'd want to spend an extended period of time walking around by myself. Perfectly fine to drive in and out, but not really to linger. Actually, within the last year it's feeling noticeably less safe in areas of Stamford I used to never think twice about. Most obvious are the more obnoxious, pushy lunchtime panhandlers than usual in the area of Old Main Street, Atlantic, etc. Whoever calls the shots for the PD, needs to nip that s*** in the bud right now. Also, my entire office was kind of wigged out a few weeks ago when that man was stabbed/murdered in front of McDonalds-across from Ferguson Library on Bedford at 8 p.m. on a Thursday night. So many coworkers of mine who might be working late on any given night, are right there in that general vicinity grabbing dinner at that exact time. Note to self: don't ever accidentally spill your coffee on a Stamford street thug, and never mind the apologies, 'cause the animal will still stab your heart right there in front of everyone...

What I think is hysterical is that Avon real estate is cheaper than Norwalk real estate.

Its more of no mans land between the train station / 95 and Harbor Point, especially on Canal where Fairway is. Its not "ghetto" or dangerous, but with the light foot traffic I could see people being hesitant to walk alone there.

The Stamford PD has a pretty strong presence downtown, but it seems like most of their focus is on traffic enforcement. I rarely seem out of their cruisers unless they're giving a motorist a ticket.

Then clearly you haven't seen New Haven's worst areas.

Well, I drove through Fair Haven before. There are certainly areas in Stamford just like that, though admittedly not as expansive. For example, the area near Greenwich Ave and Richmond Hill looks horrible. Or many other spots in southern Stamford.
