One year ago, I woke up to about 6 inches of powder snow in New Britain's south end. Compare that to metro NYC:

NEWARK AIRPORT 28.1" 100 AM 1/24 FAA OBSERVER

CENTRAL PARK 26.8" 1207 AM 1/24 PARK CONSERVANCY

NYC/JFK AIRPORT 30.5" 100 AM 1/24 FAA OBSERVER

NYC/LA GUARDIA 27.9" 100 AM 1/24 FAA OBSERVER

How many air miles is New Britain's 06052 from Central Park? 100 maybe?

This morning, I see about 1.5 inches of slushy wet snow at the place I'm staying at, close to the Berlin/Newington town line.

It's weird, with this storm we picked up about an inch in Wallingford, CT. Every winter "event" seems to outperform a bit, and every model seems to shift colder at the last minute. Anyone else notice this trend?

Yeah me as well, but it must have changed in a short distance. My credit union has branches in White Plains, northern Rockland County, Norwalk and New Haven and they delayed the opening of the Rockland County branch due to weather.

Had a tree come down in the backyard (yeah, firewood!), some sleet/ice on the ground but the roads were fine other than some closures due to downed power lines. No school delays either. Wild night

That's why you can't trust QPF on the preceding pages---- the long range temp/precip forecast never populates precip more than 48 hours out. You called for dry and trending colder but the first clause is busted three days later

Oh for sure, details and small changes can happen like qpf amounts, timing, ect.. I remember saying dry after this NorEaster too. It's not much rain but yeah, changes to some rain Thursday is a change. We'll see.

But you have to admit, pretty cool we can see the future

My sister is getting heavy snow now in Western NY. Atlantic moisture wrapping into the cold air. So cool.

We're getting spurts of rain coming off the Atlantic.

Surface temps 1pm. 50s on Nantucket. 39° Atlantic city because the storm motion is moving NE so it's past them and colder air filtered back in.

WOW..

Moisture feed from the Caribbean to the Northeast. Toooo cool to see happening. Moisture from down there feeding into the storm off Long Island coast.

A still view.. WOW! Storm center off the coast of Eastern Long Island with moisture bands from the Tropics.

The funny part is that in the Caribbean (mainly on Cuba and Hispaniola) people are complaining about the 'extreme cold.' Keep in mind this 'extreme cold' is nothing more than 50's and lower 60's for the night and early morning. For the people there it feels like the end of the world. lol

They are breaking record lows all over the place over there. (This is serious).

One place where it truly is cold is in the Central Mountain Range of Dominican Republic. In Valle Nuevo, which is a valley in the mountains that looks more like Switzerland than the Caribbean, temperatures have been below freezing, as low as 28 degrees. A young woman froze to death in those mountains recently, judging by news I just looked at. Serious stuff.

The kicker is that the thousands of European and North American tourists vacationing in the idillic beach resorts of Cuba and Dominican Republic probably are not even aware those countries are experiencing record breaking 'cold' even in their tourist areas. lol

Whatever you do, for the time being its best to not mention Global Warming to the natives. Just don't. lol
