Turns out all but one of the 6 OKX stations tied or set records for the date today....only Central Park missed by 1 degree. Interestingly all 6 records were the same year (1997)

Here's something interesting, almost every part of the continental US is above freezing (and this is at night!). How unusual is that this time of year? In fact, the site that shows daily high and low temps for the entire continental US says the lowest so far is 12 degrees in Mammoth Lakes, CA! If that sticks through midnight as the US low it almost has to be unprecedented, it's rare in February for there to be a day where no part of the continental US went go below zero, let alone no part being under 10 degrees!

As you know from the records yesterday getting 20+ above normal is at the extreme end for us (Bridgeport especially). The 63° was 23 above normal.

But if you go to the Plains states or I think interior more, 30+ above normal is getting into the extremes.

Albany Max yesterday was 52 which is 16 above normal but the record max is 66 which is 30 above normal.

Windsor Locks max yesterday was 58 which is 18 above normal but the record max is 67 which is 27 above normal

In other words... its hard for us to go 20+ above normal so when it does it's near record warm

Max temps yesterday on left, departures on right

With no deep cold anomalies coming the rest of the month to knock down these higher anomalies, this month is a lock to be well above normal.

As I always say.. it's always a few days or 1 week that skews the data. Look at how February has been. Pretty Normal. Then you got the 2-4 days of crazy warmth and so it skews the Average month anomalies.

Hartford doesn't have above normal lows like Bridgeport did. Slightly below normal month but because of the 50, 53, and 58° goodbye below normal for the month.

Wednesday and Thursday this week.

Quote:
Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service New York NY
1238 PM EST Mon Feb 20 2017

Behind the shortwave passage, weak high pressure builds into the
region. Heights aloft rise, allowing for a period of well above
temperatures.
Highs on Wednesday are forecast in the upper 50s to
near 60. Slightly cooler conditions are expected across Long Island
and eastern and coastal Connecticut.

The warm unseasonable temperatures continue into Thursday as
westerly flow continues to pump warm air into the region. Will
follow previous forecast and continue to trend warmer
than MOS and
model consensus blends which will likely be too cool on Thursday.
Highs for Thursday will likely approach 70 degrees in the NYC metro
and NE NJ
and lower to middle 60s across the Lower Hudson Valley and
interior CT. Coastal CT and Long Island may struggle to get above 60
with a cooler flow off the waters
. See Climate section for record
highs on Thursday (Feb 23rd).
