@7WISHES: Had heard of the NY peak and had to check. I know Mount Marcy is their highest point. As for Mount Washington, I'm certain they hold the US record for highest recorded wind gust. I think it was 231 MPH!

They have an awesome webcam up on Whiteface Mountain in NY. Too bad Mt Washington is the only one above 4000' with data. Mt Mansfield in Vermont keeps snow data at 4300'

I like how you said "only" being at 6,288'. That's pretty high and when there's no friction of other landmasses it helps create extreme conditions especially wind. Also like 7Wishes said, there's really no other data from other Peaks above 4500' and if there was you would see its a common thing.

Check link during day tomorrow. Cool look. If its not blocked.

Furthest I've been into NH is either Wolfeboro or West Lebanon (walking over the US Route 4 bridge from White River Junction, VT).

Accuweather now has New Britain (06052) as +6 F/-14 C.

Hilton.

Speaking of Hilton, I remember driving north on Rte 91 towards Hartford back sometime in the mid '80s at night. It was glare ice. The worst driving conditions I have ever experienced in my entire life. The highway was thickly littered with spun out cars and I felt like I was driving a sleigh as I had absolutely no control, no brakes, no steering, just silent prayer.

I turned on the car radio. There was Hilton Kaderli. He said, "Hey folks! It's a beautiful night out there!"

And I felt like reaching into the radio and punching him. He then followed it up with, "Beautiful night to go out for a DRIVE."

He was always so cheerful. Not if I could have gotten a hold of him.

Thanks! I've spent a lot of time up there over the years and am fascinated by the extremes at the Observatory. I check out their stats now and then. Very cool place if you've never been!
