Deep thunderblasts coming from the west. I saw a warning out near the Hudson of ping pong to golf ball sized hail. No clue if it's verifying but these look pretty bad. Stay safe.

Cleaned the drains as a precautionary task against any flooding

HEAVY lightning to the west. In the area I screenshotted it is 120+ strikes per minute (could be to ground or to cloud). VERY ACTIVE. Watch out for these!

Here it comes! Already hearing CTG lightning. Think I heard it strike a tree or something. Sounded like an explosion

Yes, that was the reason, it was cloudy and even rainy to the north much sooner. BDL only topped out at 83 today (and they are already down to 69), whereas Central Park and LGA reached 90 and from Philly to DC where they had no clouds at all it was in the mid 90s.

By the way, Boston/Logan Airport did not go below 83 yesterday and achieved their all time highest low temperature (they had a high of 98). Curiously, I looked up this stat for BDL (thank you again Cambium for introducing me to NOW data!), they only had a low of 80 degrees once, way way way back on July 31, 1917 (high of 97, low of 80).

It is a little more common in NYC's "heat island"; including yesterday, Central Park has had 14 lows of 80+ in the 2010s, which ties the 1900s decade for the most there (for reasons unknown, there were a lot of them between 1900 and 1909, particularly a slew of them in 1905, 1906 and especially 1908). No other decade has more than 10 of them (the 1980s are next with 6 that decade).

All I needed was 0.12". So far 1/4" and still raining. 7.13" this month. Not a common thing to get!

Can I go for 8"??

I left Berlin McDonald's at 4:30 PM (New Britain Road). Not one drop. Walked to Church Street in Newington. A couple of drops but no big deal. As soon as I was half way down Richard Street, heading towards Target and the Berlin Turnpike? *WHAM!* It opened up. It was pouring when crossing the Berlin Turnpike to the area of Lowe's and Chick-Fil-A. Lighter now, but raining for a couple more hours, I'm guessing.
