No doubt what ever winter 2023/2024 has left - it's going to be a uphill battle to get any more snow or cold temps at least until mid-March. The CPC shows very high chance of above normal temps in the 8 to 14 day outlook (out to March 8th):

What is interesting (and a bit strange)...is that the models are showing almost nonstop high pressure locked in off the East Coast for 7 or 8 days (March 1 - 7). Not all that typical for early March, more like from May through October. Maybe that's what the CPC is looking at ?

Otherwise, pretty easy going weather, sunshine at least until Tuesday with moderating temps (50 F by Tuesday, and in the 50's rest of the week). In fact, after Sunday night, many areas will not go below freezing until next weekend. So in the short/medium term no real cold air in the pipeline after tonight it looks like:

Thursday a sharp front comes. Models hinting at rain changing to snow.

In my experience when you get a front like this it never changes to snow in CT because air is very dry behind it AND there's too much residual warmth at the surface.

But with Mother Nature you never know.

December 1973?

December 1973

You are a few years older than me it seems, I wasn't playing tennis in 1970!

Yea, I’ve been watching this on TV. While it has been cool and stormy in the western USA, nothing like the crazy images coming out of northern Aisa. It’s winter in 4th gear lol.

Another consideration for what’s left of winter for us - is that average mean temps are swiftly rising now; March is second to only April in speed in which average temps increase. At the NWS Bridgeport, the average high is 42 F today/average low is 28 F. However, in just 8 days (March 5th) the average high is up to 45 F/low 30 F…and by mid-month, the average high is 48 F while the lows are above freezing. For us to get some real wintery weather (snow), we are going to need below normal temps. IF (?) the forecast from NOAA/CPC holds, those below normal temps are going to have come in the 2nd half of March, because the first half is forecast to be above normal.

This week looks pretty uneventful, high pressure builds in to our south today and tonight and winds will shift to the southwest and milder air will overspread the region. Monday and Tuesday look sunny and mild with temps in the 50’s F. Rain showers will arrive by mid-week with highs in the 40’s F it looks like:

Amazing blue skies on the beach this cold morning:

1980s pattern. Could last another couple years. Bet on below avg snowfall and you'll be right most of the time until the pattern changes.

Anchorage and Juneau battling out 1st place for snowiest airport sites in the U.S. Usually Marquette and Caribou are or Syracuse.

Season Snowfall departures so far...

Hartford: -15.4"
Bridgeport: -8.8"

Syracuse is -65.2" below normal
Erie: -61.7"

Boston: -27.1"
NYC: -15.7"
Providence: -10.1"
Philly: -7.1"

Allentown, Knoxville, Memphis, Peoria, Moline, Dubuque are NOT below normal.

Philly, DC & Baltimore still have more snow than NYC
