I think NWS is still licking it's wounds from the craziness from the storm last weekend...they are not going to say anything too far out. LOL

I've found that over the years checking the snow cover maps...vs what is actually on the ground is notoriously never the same. Granted from late November to maybe early February when the sun is the lowest in the sky (least melting day to day) they are least in error, but this time of year they change so much from day to day with melting that they are always off.

Granted we have much less snow on the coast than points inland/west-northwest - but the maps show my area has having 1 to 2 inches...while there is patchy snow (at best). We had about 1.5 inches yesterday (I had almost no snow cover until yesterday). I would bet it will be GONE with full sunshine by the end of today if not late Monday. Yet, I'll bet they will still show the south-central coast of CT has having snow cover.

Satellite pics don't lie. Then again, they're not gonna pick up those patches of lawn in your backyard.

That's the problem...the "patches" are the snow...not the green lawn. I have more lawn showing than snow

I'll compare the satellite at the end of Monday...I would bet all my snow cover will be gone, but the snow cover map will still show snow on the ground. I think the reason is they really don't update it each day.

How am I enjoying this beautiful chilly blue sky winter day?

By being at the beach. That's not white sand. Feb 18, 2024.

Clear skies helps realize where the snowpack is. Look for the white stuff not moving. Anything moving is obviously clouds.

Still shot. Looks like Long Island still has snow too, south shore does not

Connecticut and Rhode Island have snow cover almost in the entire states.

I wonder what could be the cause for the green areas (not counting lakes since for obvious reason don’t have much snow cover)? Maybe many of those are glitches?

I know the green areas over Long Island are the Pine Barrens. Not sure where else you're looking at.

A look at this seasons snowfall totals..

Bridgeport 15.6". Hartford 24" 22.4" Albany

Only 7.5" for NYC but over a foot in Trenton, NJ.

11.7" in Washington DC, 1.4" Salisbury, MD

11.3" Baltimore, 9.7" Boston

41" Elkins, WV

The Pine Barrens are in New Jersey, not LI. I learned that from a Sopranos episode.

I believe there's a LI version too, just a lot smaller and less well known. But I think those "holes" are actually areas with no snow cover, it is getting kind of spotty in some areas.
