You can find that feel in Ridgefield but it’ll be a lot more expensive than Oxford/Southbury.
I agree with this. Although the OP’s budget is generous so he should be able to afford something in Ridgefield. And it definitely has a quintessential New England town center. Plus you can get a house in the woods.

I guess I don’t understand with a decent budget why not just get a crash pad in LI.
Agree that OP’s budget is high enough that they can afford to live further southwest.
As someone who is really familiar with Southbury and also with traveling throughout that area into NY, I would focus on Ridgefield, Sherman, or New Fairfield.
