I wrote down many spots that seen snow yesterday in the Eastern U.S (mostly above 1500') Here's one spot. Also note, State College saw wet flakes this morning.

We could be in for a good Ski Season.

‎0.7 INCHES OF SNOWFALL HAS BEEN REPORTED BY THE CO-OP OBSERVER AT LAUREL SUMMIT THIS MORNING....WITH AN ACCUM OF 1.2 INCHES AT
PHILIPSBURG. THIS MARKS THE EARLIEST DATE IN THE COOL SEASON THAT MEASURABLE SNOW HAS BEEN RECORDED AT THESE SITES. CO-OPERATIVE WEATHER OBSERVATIONS HAVE BEEN TAKEN AT BOTH LAUREL SUMMIT AND PHILIPSBURG SINCE APRIL AND DECEMBER OF 1997 RESPECTIVELY. BOTH KJST AND KBFD HAVE BEEN SNOWING SINCE 10-11Z...WITH THE SNOW FALLING HEAVY AT TIMES AT JST AROUND 12Z. TEMPS AT 34F MEAN LITTLE ACCUMULATION IN MOST PLACES...BUT MESONET OBS SHOWED SOME OF THE RIDGE TOP LOCATIONS AT 30-32F AROUND DAYBREAK.

REGIONAL WEB CAMS SHOW A COATING OF SNOW EVEN ON ROADWAYS COATING WITH SNOW AT ELEVATIONS ABOVE 1700 FT MSL...SUCH AS RT 22 FROM GALLITZIN THROUGH EBENSBURG...TO CHICKORY MTN...WHERE MUCH OF THIS ROAD STRETCH IS BETWEEN 1800-2200 FT MSL.

You might be interested to know that the inhouse ECWMF Long range shows a warm and dry October for much of the eastern USA. So we might (?) end up with a very dry October on the East Coast:

Boring, isn't it. Hard to talk about weather when its warm and dry.

But yeah, After Tuesday enjoy dry average weather for 5 days then warmer then average afterwards... Lets see if that changes down the road...

I prefer a warm fall because then the change will happen just in time for winter.

I'll be wrong about the first frost though.

Upper level low sitting off NJ coast right now... This will be the last day of the chance of showers... Ridge builds in mid West(warm) but created a NorthWest flow into us (cool)... high pressure will control our area...

Coldest nights should be Wednesday and Thursday. Should be lower 40s at surface and I wouldnt be surprised to see upper 30s northern CT.

Winds should pick up to 10-20mph as the High pressure moves in tomorrow.

Enjoy this fall weather this week because models showing a warm up next week.

Here are the minimum temps for early Friday morning. But Spring is around the corner. Low temps will be in the 60s a couple days next week.

Meanwhile 10-15" of snow is falling in CA/NV above 4000 feet.

Accuweather released their Winter outlook.

Details and more graphs with link. I 70% agree the heaviest snows will occur interior this year...and that there will be many warms up for the NorthEast coastal areas.

"Heavy lake effect snows"...isn't that redundant (LOL)!

Looks intriguing for us in the Northeast. Hopefully it means not all the snow is crammed into 6 weeks of winter as it was last year.

Yeah I personally dont think it will be...and it should be less too. I'm thinking less than 3 feet total but spread out over 8 weeks. I dont think we'll see 65+ inches of snow in 5 weeks for a long time. That was sick.

Possible Tropical Moisture Into Our Area Around the 15th Time Frame

GFS hinting (now mutiple times) that a tropical system will hit the South east coast and ride up the coast. Right now it shows it going inland which would mean heavy rains for us but not a direct hit.

Lets keep an eye on this as if we need more rain in the NorthEast.

Speaking of water...the water company is raising their rates 25%....Maybe its a good time to start collecting.

This is a 6hr precip total. 3" over Virginia + 30mph winds there.
