Does the UK collect a church tax? Many European countries do to help fund schools and programs of this sort. For instance, in Germany in the 90s and early 2000s (not sure about today), students all had a religion class of their affiliated religion in public school paid for by a church tax. My college roommate was an Austrian-American Jew growing up in a small town in Germany where there were not enough Jews, Sikhs, or Buddhists to qualify for their own class (in contrast with Protestants, Catholics, and Muslims), so they had one joint class together.
You can't apply American separation between church and state in the UK which has a state religion and a history of supporting religious programming in schools.
Fyi, there are thousands of Muslims, Hindus and non Christians that attend private Catholic schools every year in this country because they want to. Its no big deal.

I thought you didn’t know you can use bold fonts here.
One should take the time and actually read the article. There were no seats available in the preferred schools the mother wanted. So the child was placed in the nearest school that had a seat open.
Yep. It's right there in the quote:
"We knew we were ever so slightly out of the catchment for a number of our first choices"
And the school she was allocated was ever so slightly not what she wanted as a result. Not sure I see the problem.
No.
Just wondering how this mother would go about ensuring that her daughter isn't in the minority at school.
And why her special snowflake should be spared a situation that millions of other kids experience every day.
By moving? Why do you think suburban schools are mostly white and city school mostly black? You guessed right. Parents didn’t want their kids to be “minority”.
Wow...Imagine if a Muslim was forced to go to a Christian school, there'd be outrage and whatever the U.K equivalent of the NAACP is would be up in arms.
This is so wrong I have no words, I feel horrible for the little girl.
I think it's odd that many Christians such as OP (ironically named PeaceandLove) are completely convinced that Christianity is the right and only religion to have; yet they are simultaneously so insecure about their religion that being exposed to other religions makes them scream "PERSECUTION!"
I can understand the mother's concerns about the socialization aspect. Will the students have school dances? I know that some schools in the UK are starting to emulate the US and have a prom. As a teenager, this is the time of life when they start to think about dating. The girl might miss out on these opportunities and you are only a teenager once in life.
This is why the Pilgrims and the Quakers left England. Queen Elizabeth is head of the Church of England. Thank goodness for the US. Students have the choice to attend private relgious schools and if they dont' have the funding for the tuition, there are private sources to make that possible. For everyone else, there are nonsecular public schools.

I guess she should have thought of that before applying to schools outside their catchment area then, huh?
