Because he's a human being. I believe SOP in a case like this is to broadcast that a suspect is fleeing, to give a description of him and his location. Other PO's show up, catch the guy and put him in the back of a police car. He probably couldn't have run 200 yards before he'd been completely out of breath.
So in retrospect do you think he made a wise decision to run?
Why can't you understand that none of his behavior justifies being shot in the back as he runs away?
I never said he deserved to be shot. I'm saying if he was smart and let himself be arrested he would not have been shot. He made a stupid decision, and so did the cop and it cost him his life.
Why shouldn't he have been respected? He had a broken tail light and owed back child support. There are about 20 million people walking around right now in the same circumstances. Should they all be worried about getting shot in the back by a cop?
Are they all going to run??? hmmm
Look this cop did the wrong thing..nobody is condoning it. But dammit EVERY one of these cases is a criminal trying to run or battle or not respect the law...f them I say. You choose to run from the law, you run a great risk.

Honestly, I don't know if he would have survived the encounter even if he hadn't run. That cop was either evil, or giving him the benefit of the doubt, wound so tight that there was no telling what he would have done next.
I will agree that generally, a person has a better chance of being treated well by a cop if he remains calm and respectful. But depending on what had already happened, the cop may very well have said, "I'm going to f*****g kill you" and the guy thought his best chance at survival was to run. None of us know.
But regardless of the decision made by the guy, the cop's behavior was not in any way justified.

You should run the risk of being arrested, tried by a jury and sentenced for resisting arrest. You should NOT run the risk of being shot in the back.
There is a more to this episode than the video. How many minutes passed from the instance of the vehicle stop to the footage shown thus far? We do not know yet.
Not defending the police officer because the video is daming but it is a case of innocent until proven guilty.

That's purely unfounded and ignorant speculation. If he would have complied with the officers requests, not left the area where his car was, and submitted to his certain arrest due to the warrant, we wouldn't be having this conversation. If he was compliant with the officer, he'd be sitting in jail right now and no one would even know about it. The cop, no matter how aggressive, isn't going shoot a man just for sport.

The officer made a bad decision and he's going to pay for it. Any jury with a bit of sense will look at that video, see the man clearly running away, posing no threat, and the officer opening fire. He deserves to go to prison for that. But going back to the original point, if the victim had just been compliant, it never would have escalated to the cop even touching his weapon, as he would have no reason to.

No matter what happened before the video, the officer still wasn't justified in shooting a man running away posing no threat to him or anyone else. He would have been justified in tackling and slamming him to the ground and throwing cuffs on him. The guy belonged in jail, not dead.
But like I said before, it would have been avoided had the man (victim, criminal) just comply and not try to resist and run.
