And before it was? No rights for slaves? Law of the land and all?
The law was unconstitutional and was not a law EVEN WHEN IT WAS IN PLACE. Is that really that hard to understand? Or is the law of the land and the government the ultimate arbiter of rights?
Yes actually when you claimed that due to the fact that the SC had upheld the civil "rights" act violating that law should result in punishment due to the fact that it was the law of the land. Slavery was also upheld as the law of the land by the supreme court. You implicitly agree with jailing those that help free slaves as a result of that position of logic. You can not selectively apply a logical belief while being intellectually honest in a debate.
You dont get to claim a law is constitutional because the SC upheld it in one instance and reject that logic in another.
They also used to have laws punishing those who helped runaway slaves.
Anti-discrimination laws over non-essential businesses are feel good laws, that's it.
Obviously, you want morality laws and feel-good laws. I don't. Government shouldn't have such power.
I want equality laws. Human = Human.
No person should be at a disadvantage due to their genetics.
Good thing people like you are on the wayside though!
