And than some. They get preferential treatment most of the time.
It's well known a cop driving drunk gets pulled over and gets a ride home. It's called "professional courtesy", they also get a pass on other things.
So I would say they have more rights than the rest of us.
You are wrong on many levels
We pull over another officer who is dui its a mandatory notification to field segeant and watch commander or face termination.
If dui immediate suspension surrender badge and gun
Mandatory test.. Refusal.. Automatic termination
Conviction for dui..receive 30 days off.. The maximum amount thst can be levied before automatic termination... Which equates to a 5000 automatic fine beyond any court costs or penalty
Lose your license..lose your job.. Judge gives you a restricted license you would still be working as a civilian employee.. No badge no gun at the whim of the department
Mandatory departmental meeting with psych... Mandatory alcohol school.. Mandatory alcohol testing for whatever period the court sentences you too..
This is departmental and not criminal... Failure to cooperate means termination
We are taught and rebriefed all the time as to the policy.. Violate it and subject yourself to harsh sanctions or termination...
No civilian receives these sanctions
What used to happen and what happens today is very different..
My job equals my freedom and my house payment.. You screw up commiting a crime that's on you...and we won't cover it up.. There's too many people who are standing in the wings that want a great job helping people that is fairly secure economically

Certainly now with a body camera a cop would be nuts to let anyone cop or not go. That's another reason I support body cameras. It will cut down on corruption on some of the bad apples. Step in the right direction.

Yes good for the cop and good for the public. Bad cops will have their actions caught on camera and will be fired. The criminals will stop making false claims against cops. A win win for everyone. In fact the federal government should provide grants to every single police department in the country for the cameras. The majority of cops support the use of cameras.

As I said, good for all involved. I didn't put a spin on it. Criminals will always try to get away with crimes, hence why they are criminals.
I am for body cameras as they protect the public just as much as they protect our civil servants. Period.

Sorry not wrong. I remember many years ago on Long Island a drunk cop killed a pedestrian and it was covered up by the Suffolk County police dept. at first. Than the truth started to come out.
I personally know of an incident in a southern state where a couple of patrons followed an off duty cop out of a bar concerned about how drunk he was, and called 911 as he was all over the road, it was dropped and the woman who reported it said she was harassed later on.
Not buying it.

Exactly. It's part of the professional courtesy that goes along with the job, they cover for their own.
