Oh, that is really sad. At least he died in his home country, and his loved ones got a chance to see him.

My understanding is that the US has been asking the SK military to take over charge of the military in SK, but, SK has been refusing to do so for about 8 years.

Of course SK wants the US military there as a trigger.

And yes, SK knows what would happen if NK implodes. SK really does not want to deal with a NK implosion and millions of NK people who have no money or clue regarding modern life, and the old family ties between NK and SK are fading as the elders die off.

Its easy to be critical of US policy, but, as is obvious, its a hairy situation and our US military is in the cross hairs both literally and figuratively.

Some would argue that the US ought to just leave... not our problem. But, if SK wants us there as a trigger, then we do have a right to suggest possible resolutions...

It was not guaranteed to be completely safe. That's different altogether. Everyone knows there are risks involved in traveling.

No need to fix anything. Just send a message: don't **** with us. Send in the predators along some SEALS and DELTA. Take the leadership out. One of two things will happen: 1. NK will collapse from within. 2. Their military reacts and fire some antiquated missiles and shells at neighboring countries which will quickly devour NK out their own self-preservation. The US can sit back and watch.

No one ever claimed there was a guarantee of complete safety. A risk in traveling is getting pickpocketed or coming down with food poisoning, not being sentenced to hard labor for (a most likely fabricated incident of) petty theft and coming home brain dead.

North Korea murdered an American citizen. Plain and simple.

The only reason they released him was because they didn't want him to die while in their custody. That's it. No other reason.

It's so bizarre but totally tragic. I am so sorry for the senseless loss. May he rest in peace.
