it's definitely sad to say the least. However, americans need to realize that we can not gallop all over the world at free will and expect freedoms and rights to be adhered to everywhere. I think a lot of americans have that mindset and unfortunately this young man lost his life due to not considering the full ramifications of visiting a isolationist country like north korea!
Yes, this. But many Americans go to other countries, act as though they can do anything they want, be rude or act entitled, and they often have bad reputations as tourists. And Asian countries are often popular with male tourists for reasons I don't even want to talk about, but that's another topic altogether.
Sad news all around. Just terrible. Most young males do stupid things, even if they're smart and attending an exclusive school. Look at the recent Penn State incident and you have one dead and 18 others being charged with his death.

Fully agree, but a lot of it can be tied to the increasing percentage of young men raised primarily in single-parent, predominately female-headed households; once Helicopter-Mom is no longer around, a young man is more likely to fall prey to the snares and temptations which are less likely to take hold in the presence of a mature male figure.

I grew up in the situation you described, and once Helicopter Mom wasn't around I became a woman myself!

Of course, somehow, it is an opportunity to criticize women.
No need to fix anything. Just send a message: don't **** with us. Send in the predators along some SEALS and DELTA. Take the leadership out. One of two things will happen: 1. NK will collapse from within. 2. Their military reacts and fire some antiquated missiles and shells at neighboring countries which will quickly devour NK out their own self-preservation. The US can sit back and watch.
yes, great plan! and Cuba too, and Sweden (you know, cuz of ABBA)

And of course, no one should ever criticize those protected and venerated under the Doctrine of Absolute Political Correctness.

And for a situation that has nothing at all to do with a single-parent household. Otto Warmbier had two involved parents and yet his fate was what it was.
