As a follow-up to my earlier post, I purchased four tickets for last nights draw and won money on three of them ($4, $4 and $7). So for my $8 investment I nearly doubled-up. Did I win $530M? No, but I'm still satisfied with the results.
So, odds be damned, winning isn't out of the question.
As one of my friends who is a financial planner says, the odds of winning are essentially the same whether you buy a ticket or not, so don't waste your money.
Yet that person would be doing double backflips if they got a call from the winner asking to invest with them!
Speaking of "entertainment value" I recently saw two terrible movies (Baby Driver/ Atomic Blond). I probably spent $80 on that entertainment (tickets,drinks/popcorn,parking).
I'd rather have had a 6 pack of beer and 35 lottery tickets! Those 2 movies were painful to watch.

Quite obviously you are not a regular player. The jack pot is now up to $650 million, not to shabby. By Tuesday night it may well be over $700 million. Eventually there will be a winner or winners. If I win, I want it all. As an only child I am not used to sharing.
The odds of winning the jackpot are still the same (1 in 292 million), regardless of the jackpot amount and how many people play. But the odds of the jackpot being won would be greater if more people buy tickets.
Yep, the odds are astronomical but some people still do win. My better half and I will invest a few dollars and get our money's worth by having a lengthy, entertaining and wholly speculative discussion of what we will do with the money 'when' we win.

We do that too, much more fun than a movie.
Also, we still agree that we won't tell anyone if we ever won. We'll have a blast giving much of it away in secret.
