Oh come on. This situation isn't really about rights. It is about personal responsibility in public. I happen to have asthma and sensitive to some animal dander, luckily not very severe. I take full responsibility for knowing my triggers and to be ready. The point here was not that a person with severe allergies doesn't have rights, but that they should be prepared for public situations that are not within their control. They should have their medications on hand, inform staff before putting themselves in a possibly dangerous situation. No one can expect airline employees to empty and sterilize a plane just because someone with an allergy might be flying in it. As others already mentioned, what is the airline supposed to do if this passenger ends up in a crisis at 30,000 feet? Safer for them to be re-booked. If you turn it around, the pet owners were following the airline's regulations, had paid for a service, and there was no prior justification to be booted off the plane at the last minute. This woman behaved horribly and should not be rewarded for it.
I actually agree with your post. My post was more a rant against the theme of a lot of the posts I was reading in this thread. The general theme being either a rehash of the old "my pet can't be causing allergies, they are mostly in your head" belief or the "my fur babies are more important than other people" conceit.
Personally, this thread hit a nerve as I've always had moderate to severe asthma when in the presence of certain dogs and cats, and MANY family members who wouldn't bother to clean up when I was visiting growing up. One of the nicest things about being an adult with a good job is just being able to refuse to stay with anyone in like that.
^^^^ maybe the person with severe allergies shouldn't travel. With almost the hotels taking pets now, its hard to find a safe room.
I have a friend who was a first class flight attendant for 35 years and she told me the planes are filthy. They might look clean but the rarely get sanitized. People change babies on the table we eat on. People put there nasty feet everywhere. Usually there is urine drops on the floor in the bathroom, thanks guys.

I think they feel filthy. Maybe slightly cleaner then a city bus. I always need to shower after flying, I feel so gross.

I'm sure with all the lovely flight attendants walking around, I'm sure there is way more than just a couple drops of urine on the floor, and walls.....
SWA is going to be all over making her happy to avoid a huge payout.
I just skimmed the SouthWest CoC (contract of carriage) The court that would have jurisdiction is Texas, (Northern District of Texas) so if she does file a law suit, she might find a very unfriendly pool of jurors.
