You still don't just leave knowing your girlfriend is still in the car.

Perhaps there is more to the story:

I get that, I'm just surprised the cab driver just left the scene like that. Then again, maybe he was the one who called 911 and decided to get the driver to the hospital as quickly as possible and not wait for an ambulance.

But if the driver didn't have life or limb threatening injuries (depending on how severe his burns were), he should have stayed and waited for authorities, including an ambulance for himself, especially considering he was at fault for the accident.

I don’t think the guy was in his right mind. In the video he’s barefoot, limping, covered with soot and burned, yet he just hails a cab like he’s in a daze. That’s why I initially said he might have been in shock.

I’m guessing the cab driver saw him in that state and just took him straight to the hospital.

Ted Kennedy did something similar at Chappaquiddick. It didn't hurt his career.

He could have gotten the cab driver to call 911. Instead, he just called out "Hey, can I get a ride?" Didn't sound like much of a "daze" to me - more like total unconcern for anything except himself.

I'm willing to cut him some slack. He was likely in shock and in excruciating pain from the burns. He didn't want to wait for an ambulance.

From how involved the car is in the video it has been on fire for some time or the fire spread very quickly. Either way the guy on the road is burned and I am willing to bet he did try to get her out but simply couldn't. Sometimes you just have to walk away and sometimes the instinct for self preservation takes over.

I wouldn't do any knee jerk judging here until the facts are all in.
