If you bother to open the link to that article, then you can see it, and if you doubt the veracity of that article, you can find a fairly large number of news articles that reported the same thing. If you feel that he was a "Godly" man, you are entitled to that opinion, just as I am entitled to believe that he was a phony and a bigot as a result of his own words--which were memorialized on tape when he did not know that he was being recorded.
What somebody says or does when he thinks that nobody is watching or listening is the real measure of that person's moral compass.
But in fairness, was that where is heart remained or did he change and learn from his errors?
Those tapes are what? 50 years old?
That being said many famous historical figures evolved over time in their views.
Malcom X, Gen McAurthur, Obama, Clinton all at one time or another held bigoted views that they grew past.
Pretty much most thinking adults with a conscience that are getting older have at one point or time held views that are bigoted....that they grew past as they traveled through life and learned more.
Even the great MLK had flaws, he was human after all....but he still did great things and is one of the most important figures GLOBALLY of the 20th century.
Who would you rather deal with, an overly cautious man like Billy Graham, or some creep like Howard Weinstein?
Which Howard Weinstein are you referring to?
Neither the science fiction writer of that name, nor the semi-famous bridge player named Howard Weinstein, are "creeps"--in my opinion.
Is there another Howard Weinstein with whom I should be familiar?
The Grahams were beloved members of my husband's family. My MIL and Ruth were very close. My husband grew up with Franklin.
Loved that man and he was kind and good.
I am sorry for your loss. I have been praying for their family and friends.
I grew up watching Billy Graham speak at the crusades on TV with my parents. I have read his and Ruth's books. When I heard the news about his passing yesterday, I felt that I had lost a friend.
I'm sure that I didn't.
However, in the process, you have trashed two people who did not deserve that type of treatment.
Oh yeah, nobody else knew who I meant. Nobody.
And I "trashed" two people? Oh yeah, because nobody else knew who I meant. Nobody. And now these other two men's lives are RUINED. FOREVER!!!1! Oh yeah!
Over dramatic, I can do it too!
