When I saw the cc footage of her and Casey leaving the AL jail, I did not think she looked so bad. Her body looked its age, for sure, but she looked OK, and was identifiable from her badge picture. She was moving fine.
I think the fact that she bought sex toys before the escape, and that they stayed in a motel for a week or so, says a lot about what she expected to get from the escape. I also want to mention that Casey referred to her as his “wife” after his apprehension, and asked his captors to see about her. Much has been made about this. The local sheriff has said that Casey showed no concern about her after capture. But I suspect there was a bond between them.
Like others here, I do not know why Vicky did what she did. An independent retirement with the security of a pension would be some women’s dream. I agree that she could have made a good life for herself for a number of years. Why she wanted this other life, I do not know, and I cannot understand.

Of course, she was not a widow either. She divorced her husband in 1991, though they were evidently still close according to her ex-mother-in-law
Quote:
The 88-year-old said: “I can’t understand that she went with a guy who she knew was a murderer. If he killed one man, he killed another. I read it in the newspaper this morning. I can’t see her doing that. She wasn’t that kind of person. She raised baby cows and stuff and she worked hard. Frances added that Vicky remained close to her and her son Tommy, who died of Parkinson’s disease in January, even after the divorce.
That article has a picture of her with her "daughter". But I thought she did not have any children. And the daughter looks like she has a beard?
Ew. Anyway, the NY Post is a tabloid rag, and the photo looks photoshopped. There isn't any daughter.
But you know, the photo of her in the peach-colored t-shirt doesn't portray an ugly woman who suffered her whole life because she couldn't attract a man as some have said. Not a raving beauty, but pretty enough.
Sorry, poor choice of words--trying to distinguish people who are actually reporting on the story, not people on this board or any other. Should have used "actual" reporters. I don't know one newspaper or whatever it is from the other. I take them all with a grain of salt.
Skepticism concerning what passes for journalism these days is good approach in the age of clickbait, but some grains of salt are bigger than others. The NYT employs an entire floor of fact-checkers; the Daily Mail just makes stuff up sometimes.

Her video from the hotel on the morning of her escape looks very close to the distributed photo: blond, fair skinned and youngish looking.
The guy who put her down and said that she looks like 76 y.o - was fired by her years ago.
Was 911 call dialed by a car’s system?
She sounded calm when she said ”let’s run”. She gotta be expecting to be shot?
Was self shooting a result of a split second decision when she saw Casey being pulled out of the car by the marshals?
So she felt like no way out for her as the suicide by cops wouldn’t happen ?
Them staying in a hotel without any further plans except a knee jerk reaction of switching cars proves that she knew that they had no chance for an escape and it is just some time together before they are going to be found?

And now she's in the running for the Darwin award. Congrats!
