I don't think it's sad; who of us shopped regularly at Saks anyway?

I believe it's going to be more inline with their Charlotte, NC South Park store which competes with neiman's, Macy's , Dillard's and nordstroms in the same shopping center. It's defiantly not a discount store there.

I use to like it when I was a kid but my parents never would take me there. I ate at pappadeaux last night so it kinda made me think about it. BTW they have "king cake" cheese cake right now, if anyone is interested, I passed.

This can't be good for Galleria Dallas' image. Belk will increase sales no doubt, but this leaves Galleria Dallas in a downward slope when it comes to fashion. I wonder how long it is until Louis Vuitton and other high fashion start to reconsider moving. On the other hand, this puts NorthPark another mile forward in the fashion race for DFW.

Who cares? If Louis Vuitton leaves? I don't understand why women like ugly luggage with logo? There are other brands of quality that doesn't scream, " I can afford expensive goodies.".

Oh, please. Don't you know that malls need high end stores? This is a large metropolis, you know...

One of the things Dallas is known for is being a "Shopping Mecca" if out of state and international shoppers see high end retailers closing up they'll go somewehere else. Saks Fifth Avenue is not a locally based store, but it's like loosing something that makes Dallas, "Dallas".

The Saks stores that were in the Dallas area never had that same quality you found in the local Neiman stores.

Also, Belk does have a Class A dept store concept found in South Park Mall in Charlotte and Phipps Plaza in Atlanta which are the high-end malls of each of those metro regions. It sucks that Dallas is losing the diversity of two luxury retailers in one year, Barney's and Saks, but Dallas makes up for it in boutiques. Seems like Department stores aren't doing that well anymore. However, I wouldn't be shocked to see Bloomingdales re-enter the Dallas market as there have been rumors becoming more rampant over the last couple years.
