I seriously doubt that any "International Shoppers" come to Dallas, they go to London, Paris,New York, Milan, Melbourne,Madrid,Dubai & Hong Kong ... unless you are counting Mexicans as foreigners. Dallas is shopping mecca for small town southerners only. Second, I insist that Louis Vuitton is tacky luxury for status conscious women. Might as well print receipt on the bags. These brands are the worst thing ever happened to women. They can turn really sensible and intelligent women into materialistic and shallow creatures.

Weeeeellll...I don't spend that much on purses but I did inherit 2 Louis Vuittons from my mother who died 15 YEARS ago. They are still in excellent shape! I don't know if the newer ones are built to last like that but most everything else isn't these days. I didn't shop at Saks. I do like Off 5th. I think it's a matter of seeing the Galleria take a slide. Someone mentioned Valley View. Lord, I hope not!

Mexicans are not foreigners?????
Yes, Dallas and Houston do attract many foreign shoppers. We have a huge melting pot in Dallas of many nationalities. These people have family and friends that visit and go shopping at our high end luxury stores that they may not have in their home country. Dallas Market Hall is very well known. People drastically underestimate the foreign shoppers influence in Dallas and Houston.

As for LV and other luxury brands. This economy must have shoppers with high end disposable incomes to keep jobs. If everyone bought cheap clothes and accessories then we would all look the same and we would have more low paying jobs. I like quality items that last, well made and the company stands behind their product

There are a few Belks around. There is one in Rockwall. It's okay. If this new one is of the upper end then that will be very nice. I am not familiar with their higher end concept but sounds great.

Why would someone go to to the places you mentioned when they could fly to Dallas and get the same brands?

First off, the first sentence is not true. It's not even worth proving, well, because its just silly to say what you said. Secondly, I agree...somewhat. Yes, Louis Vuitton is a status symbol to some, usually the ones who go into debt just to have a Louis Vuitton product to "appear" rich, which I agree is so annoying. People who buy Louis Vuitton, and other haute couture handbags, don't buy the ones that have the logo printed/embossed on the bag. Why? Because they're not trying to prove that they "have money." The monogram handbags are the most knocked-off material on earth; roughly one percent (1%) of Louis Vuitton handbags are authentic. However, fashion brands aren't the worst things to happen to women...that's another silly statement. Fashion is what helps women look beautiful and feminine. I hope you don't have anything against high-quality companies as they tend to increase market-wide quality.

I should stay out of this as I know almost nothing about women's fashion and I hardly ever go to malls to know enough who comes there and who does not. However, there are other ways to boost economy. I guess I am not for ultra lux luxury products but I am sure that I am not for things that scream their price. I do admire things that scream quality and good taste.

The Belk at SouthPark mall in Charlotte definitely is almost up to Nordstrom par and better than Macy's or Dillard's. I think if they use this concept, everyone will be pleasantly surprised.

The Warwick Melrose Hotel, Dallas, has joined with NorthPark Center in celebrating Canada Appreciation month (February) in Dallas. Apparently it is a big deal.
