My daughter is waitlisted at GH, Hockaday, and LL for pre-k. She has admits from Parish and ESD. We are wondering if the waitlists move and anything that we parents can do to influence the outcome.

I assume waitlists will move this year as the economy is significantly shifting right now. You would have to feel really damn good about your job security (or your trust fund) to commit to 14 years of $25k+ schooling right now. If you are in that position and high on the waitlist, then this is the year you’d be most likely to get lucky.

I’ll leave it to someone else to answer your questions about influencing the waitlist.

I'm also curious about various school's wait list protocol...are their certain tactics families can try that work better for different schools?

Probably not. These waitlists are supposedly random and everyone on it gets re-evaluated for an open spot.

Unless you make a big donation for a new wing or computer lab or something.

They aren’t random - for each declined space, they look at the entirety of the waitlist to make decisions about who to let in.

I think we are getting at the same result here. The admission decision e-mails from Greenhill and Hockaday we received stated that the wait pools are unranked. Should a spot become available, the wait list is looked over again to see which kid fits best.

I'm assuming up, way up. Greenhill had almost 850 applications for spots in their PreK class.

That cannot be true. For like 32 spots? That would be like 4-5X the average applications.

How could that be? There is no way 850 kids applied to PreK!

Thanks to everyone who responded to my request.

I heard Greenhill received 200+ applications for pre k from someone who heard it from admission, don't know if the information is accurate.
