We had a big entertainment unit (for TV, etc) that was flimsy and barely survived one move in California. We gave it away for free before moving to Denver and it collapsed into a heap while going out our front door! But then we have another big shelving unit that's very sturdy and made it to Denver just fine. Same with a coffee table and end tables. I guess it just depends on the individual piece.

Just wanted to get an update... how's the IKEA coming along? I'm moving there in a few weeks and will need some furniture. Will probably get most of it used from Craigslist, but I like getting ideas from IKEA's "500 sq foot home", "400 sq foot home", etc etc

doublebeezer, I saw a sign put up recently by I-25 & County Line where the construction site is. I don't know how long it takes to build IKEAs, but there's no way it will be ready for you by the time you'll move, you'll have to find a plan B.

They are still moving dirt. I would bet they will open before Thanksgiving 2011.

I am monitoring this very closely . they say fall 2011.

just drive by, bring your ikea catalog and show them what you plan to buy, ask their opinions, etc. if we all do this, I'm sure we'll drive them insane and they'll hurry .

All the furniture at IKEA is cheap. We have one here in Austin and I honestly do not ever go and it is only 5 miles away ; Yea I know..........

But I do like to get crafty and be creative and doing things out of the box. With that being said, I converted 3 IKEA book shelves that costed all but $150 and created a home theater center. I added (12) 4" legs and braced it to make sure my 50" heavy as heck Plasma would not be too heavy and also to make sure that it was stable for the legs that I put on it.

Yet, I didn't do it yet, but I plan to run a craft board that I can get at my local craft store and put it on the back so I can hide all my wires from view (soon).

I made a $150 entertainment center. Something similar to this @ my local furniture store (room store , rooms 2 go) costed over $800.

I just moved and it is sturdy and nothing loose yet. I like that it's very light.

Since I been planning to living little simpler & lighter . I plan next to get rid of our heavy *** sofas and go with something that is not heavy and still comfortable and "no" ikea furniture is not comfortable, but I may take another stroll down IKEA lane to see if there is something that would work.

Here is a picture:

Also, I live in the Twin Cities now and I'm in love with my IKEA. I hear Denver will be getting one soon. Anyone know the exact date?
