Are you freaking serious? TWO friends died?

I've never heard of Vitamin C.

I'm in my late 30s, a man, and I rarely have eaten fast food in the last year, yet constipation is a serious problem.

I've been to the doc. He says I should take miralax. The expensive powder stuff at the store you mix in drinks.

The problem is, I go through like a half bottle of that expensive stuff and it just doesn't work for me.

Moreover, I have been eating more fruit lately...still can't get regular.

Milk of magnesia (or laxatives) are really the only thing that works for me.

Doc said it's better to take the miralax, but the milf of magnesia is an okay alternative.

I don't want to have to depend on anything...I'm a prepper and don't want to depend on anything but myself.

Plus the milk of magnesia doesn't produce "hard" stools, it's just nasty, like diarrhea. Gotta take a "bird bath" dang near every time I "go".

Do I have to go back to the doctor?
Magnesium Citrate powder, a teaspoon (3g) in a small glass of water, mix well and drink. Follow with another large glass of water, more if you can manage it. It's not a bad taste, kind of a citrusy flavor in a way. It may take a while to work but it should kick in. This would be much better than taking MOM or Miralax all the time. Those are not designed for long term use. Most of us are deficient in Mag so this would be a good supplement anyway.

Also, avoid dairy if you do consume it, especially cheese. Eat plenty of veggies.

Vitamin C also works in large amounts, at least 1500mg but it also takes a while. 2000mg is the max recommended (as per the internet) but I doubt more would hurt. It's not something you would want to do every day. Too much of anything is bad.

If you combine both, who knows? It may give you the opposite effect of what you are looking for.

As for "hard" stools, you take what you can get.

This is the brand I use, there are many including on Amazon

My current combination seems to be working wonders: one teaspoon of inulin each afternoon plus 500 mg of magnesium citrate each night at bedtime.

Plus, I drink a minimum of 80 ounces of water each day.

Once a day, usually in the afternoon.

If I eat a bunch of junk (chips, sweets, fast food), which I don't do anymore, I'll get backed up. Even then, I was usually able to go every other day.

Every day at least 1 time, and when I have an issue I know it's the foods...rice backs me up majorally and when I get my sushi fix I know what to expect. I keep plenty of magnesium going into my body and Vit C.

It might just be a coincidence (since I've only been taking this high dose for a few days), but I think the 2000mg of vitamin C might be helping.

Question: Does taking that much vitamin C daily, regularly, harmful?

Very high doses of vitamin C are known to cause gastric discomfort and diarrhea, and this is the basis for the current upper tolerable daily intake limit of 2,000 mg for adults.
Sometimes, this exactly what you want, I would not do this every day.
