I wouldn't call it a vacation. Poorer kids enlist in the army. Smarter kids, and those from middle class families sign up in the navy and the air force.
But its still not a vacation. I had a lot of good times, but it wasn't a vacation.
I had to work my job 9 out of every 14 day cycle while in Europe and with very little pay but felt like I was on vacation all of the two years there. We did exactly the same job we would have done in combat although the only war going on was the Cold War. We would have had to work a lot harder during a war though since the bad guys didn't relocate so often in peacetime.
Because as much as people want out of Afghanistan, they understand why we went there in the first place.
Not so much about Iraq.
I was never sure why we went into Afghanistan other than to punish them for allowing bin Laden to hide there and he is not with us any longer, according to Obama and the media.

So, you're in favor of sending a 14 year old off to war?
A typical RW NJ response.
I think someone had posted a pile of pelosi about 5 generations of Romneys not sending anyone. Surely there are more than just one generation of Obamas. Stop jiving man.
Maybe because they don't want too? You can ask the same of any American who has never served.
I am my own person, why would I let my dad make major life decisions for me? Same for you, and same for Obama/Romney's kids. Not sure how you can judge either by their kids choice to go off to war or not.
But the LAST thing I would ever want to see is my own children having to experience that.
That said, I have two children who didn't and one that did volunteer...in the Marine Corps too boot!
He served in Iraq and the last thing he would ever say of his other two siblings is that they are gutless.
No one hates war as much as those who either do or have fought in one.
It's a VOLUNTEER military, thank goodness, and those who are inclined to do so, do. That doesn't make them any different than those who don't. I salute those who do and I can appreciate those who don't.
Almost all of Romney's children are of age to serve or volunteer for the armed services, yet, none of them have enlisted.
Why do you think this is?
Romney seems all to willing to send others off to fight wars, why wouldn't he encourage his kids to go fight?
After all, even offspring of prominent officials in the UK have their offspring involved in ME wars.
Military is a voluntary basis, not everyone requires to serve. I served, but that's my choice, no one forced me.
