[quote=green_mariner;26549695]Blacks have overwhelmingly voted Democrat since being allowed to vote.

Are you sure about that one? I think you should do a little research.

Former President Lyndon B. Johnson helped get the Civil Rights Act passed. Barry Goldwater was against it. Alot of Republican candidates from the late 1960s onward have had positions against it, such as Nixon and Reagan.

Obama will get the majority of the black vote but it will NOT be 100%. I think if he were running against a WHITE democrat, he would only get about 75% of the black vote. Certainly there are folks who are going to vote for him because he is black.. but there are many more who simply prefer his politics over Romney's...

One of my friends at work who is black and conservative confided in me in 2008 that he simply HAD to vote for Obama.. he just had to. It was history.. but 2012 is a different story and he is voting for his conservative ideals and not his race.. I suppose there many more folks just like him that will do the same.. We will know soon enough.

Then explain how former President Bill Clinton got 93% of the Black vote.

I think that's sad because not only is Obama only 1/2 black and raised by white people, his life growing up was not like the typical black person in America during that time. In my opinion, if his wife and kids were white they wouldn't have felt obligated to vote for him. I heard a black man say he felt ripped off that Obama is considered the first black president.

I'll accept that Democrats of the past were the backbone of institutionalized racism, but they had to be voted into office first.

So who are the people that voted the racist Democrats of the Civil Rights into office voting for these days...

Maybe I got mixed up. The point I was trying to make is that every Presidential election since 1968, I've noticed that the southern strategy has been used by Republican candidates, appealing to segregationist politicians that were still existent.
