Should Obama break Federal Law and attempt to force a delay in the National Elections so he can get NYC's and NJ's vote ? Without power those electronic voting machines won't work a week from now.

It appears to me that without NYC, conservative upper NY State could cause those electoral votes to go to Romney. Could Sandy cause Obama to lose ?

Power is gradually being restored; besides, most people in New York City still do have power.

I expect that if any polling stations are still without power come Tuesday, election officials will use paper ballots and count them by hand.

More interesting, to me at least, is what would Romney (and the other presidential candidates) have to say about this?

I think it stands to reason that Obama would have more supporters in many of the affected areas, but would Romney come out against delaying the election? Wouldn't that be saying that he doesn't feel that some people's votes should be counted?

No and no. Things will be back to normal enough for election day. And even if they aren't, most people in the city will still be able to vote. Obama will win both states without much effort. Even if the upstate areas lean Republican you would still need to knock out a significant number of the 8 million people in NYC to change anything.

then as the backup, they use paper ballots. You know how people voted before the advent of computers and machines. Many cities still used manual polling booths up until the lat 90's.

That would be for those state legislatures to decide. The US Congress and the President only have a say when the certified result, has to be on their desks. December, it has to be documented and filed.

Community Center and Municipal Building here is running on generators. I am sure they will run machines on generators, or take paper ballots, if need be.

What legal issue would there be? I don't recall any lawsuits in 2008 or 2004.

There should be a Federal law that says no campaigning or primaries before Jan 1 of the year of the election.

Limit it to 11 months instead of the 2 years that it's now become.

I'll be ecstatic. I'm more tired of the Democrats draining my bank account daily for match donations. My phone is ringing every half hour for another donation it seems. LOL
