Gretchen570 - I like Duncan Hunter a lot, for all the reasons you cite. I just like Fred Thompson a little bit more

I also think that any of the Republicans (including Giuliani or Paul or Huckabee or McCain) would be a whole lot better for the country than any Democratic candidate.

All of the candidates have flaws - nobody's perfect. I'll vote for someone who believes 70% of what I believe before I'll vote for the 30% candidate. And if you don't vote, you help the opposition - who will do things you don't like almost all of the time.

PS - there's already a US Government marijuana farm at the University of Mississippi, been there since 1968.

I'm a lot less partisan than many folks, and I really don't dislike any candidate in particular. I think probably each could do a decent job as president, but I'm probably one of the few who doesn't severely dislike Bill Clinton nor George W Bush. Not particularly a fan of either, I think both could have done better, but I'm not really one to find either replusive in how they have done their jobs.

Assuming the Democrats retain control of the Congress and Senate, I think the country would work best with a Republican in the White House. That probably best summarizes my take on the 2008 election.

He doesn't even think it should be legalized, when speaking about the federal level, which he would have some influence over. He simply feels that it's not up to the federal government to decide, and that each state should have that power as enumerated in the 10th Amendment.

The Supreme Court has been out of control and it would be great for someone to attempt to reign them in. Wickard v. Filburn was a horrible decision that overreached the bounds of the federal government and has allowed for further unintended (by the framers) power.

Mike Huckabee. He speaks the truth to power.

That, and he's an excellent bassist.

I am not a good political debator. I don't know a lot about politics. I can tell you my vote will be for Mike Huckabee. Do I agree with everything he stands for? Most likely not... NO ONE that I know of has 100% agreement on every issue and every belief in how things should or ought to be done. He does however seem to mirror about 98% of my beliefs. I'll list these things:
1). He seems to have morals and a strong faith in God. What America was founded on!AMEN.
2.) Even with those religious values, he still believes we can and should have the death penalty and he tells you how he can keep BOTH those beliefs without being contradictory.
3.) He believes we need to build our border fences, beef up border security, give them FUNDING to do so (not just lip service), believes that all illegals should be sent packing immediately and should they so wish, they may re-enter our great nation, the LEGAL way, AND he doesn't believe in punishing law abiding children of those same immigrants.
4.) He knows that we just can't pull all our troops out of a war (whether he believed the war should have been started or not, seems to be a non-issue at this point - it's been going on for years folks!). Analysts for the Middle East give concrete reasons why pulling all our troops out in a mass exodus would invariably destroy all middle eastern stability (no matter how tenuous it currently is) and would threaten America and others alike.
5.) He is the one that loudly has been talking in every debate I've seen him participate in about having the fair tax and getting rid of all other taxes to our paycheck and thus cutting our national budget by eradicating the IRS. (I'm a bit confused why people are attaching that "virtue" to Ron Paul... but since I'm limited in politics "maybe" he stands for the same changes, but just doesn't speak much about them when presented the opportunity? Not sure
6.) HE is the one that is talking about making it a LAW that all companies bring their business BACK TO AMERICA and give Americans the jobs and thus also eliminating the import tax for us to buy American owned products from overseas locations!
7.) He admits that while he may disagree on a personal basis with abortion and various other topics, he also states quite regularly that he doesn't feel the federal government (president) SHOULD have any say-so in these decisions.. that they were intended to be given to the STATE level, and should be given BACK to the states to become individual state law!
8.) He has a sense of humor AND a brain... he is relatable to the average person and doesn't seem to be "fake" or "lying".

I'm not saying he's perfect. None of the candidates are. I'm not saying I'm right, and certainly it wouldn't do anyone, any good to bash the heck out of him to change my mind. The OP asked for who we would vote for and why. Above is my response without bashing any other candidate. Whew... my .02

Peace & Merry Chistmas everyone!

The reason people are talking about Ron Paul and taxes is because he's the only one who actually understands that taxes aren't the main issue, spending is. Reduce federal spending and the federal income required to sustain the federal government could be minimized.

"By the end of his ten-year tenure, Governor Huckabee was responsible for a 37% higher sales tax in Arkansas, 16% higher motor fuel taxes, and 103% higher cigarette taxes according to Americans for Tax Reform (01/07/07)."

"Under Governor Huckabee's watch, state spending increased a whopping 65.3% from 1996 to 2004, three times the rate of inflation (Americans for Tax Reform 01/07/07). The number of state government workers rose 20% during his tenure (Arkansas Leader 04/15/06), and the state's general obligation debt shot up by almost $1 billion, according to Americans for Tax Reform."

And Arkansas, no doubt, got severely ripped off after all those higher taxes and higher spending, because Arkansas is ranked the 48th most livable state in the union. If higher taxes work, they should result in a higher standard of living.

Default None of the Above

Right now, I cannot bring myself to support any of the candidates.
After 20 years of the Clinton/Bush dynasty our nation is coming closer to a day of reckoning.

During thier 20 year reign we have went from Super Power to crumbling empire. To date, I have not heard any candidate bring any solution to the table.

I strongly feel that if the left, being Obama, Edwards, or God help us Hillary enters their far left socialist agenda into the White House, we might as well nail the boards across the lands stating out of business. Our expansive government has already choked the middle class to the breaking point, expanded the dependent entitlement class, and most of all brought our overall taxation rate to 1% higher present day than Great Britian, of which we fought a revolution to free ourselves from government domination.

On the RINO side (RINO - Republican in Name Only) we have a group from Rudy, to McCain, to Huckabee, who maintains the Bush / Clinton neo-con thought of open borders, exportation of business to Communist China, and act as the worlds police officers to enforce borders and outlaw activity overseas while we continue to bring millions of undocumented aliens and allow outlaws to run free on the domestic front.

Sorry, all I see so far is Socialist and Socialist lite.
The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire is a very long read, but one worth reading. Funny, it has many similiarities.

This may be the most important election in decades only to provide a cast of characters lacking character and common sense.
