This doesn't surprise me in the least. This is yet another example of Cruz outmaneuvering Trump in the category that matters most in the end: delegates. Trump thought his star power and celebrity name recognition would be enough to carry him through to Cleveland - while this may have been true in the early going, the reality of old-fashioned politics is setting in again.
Not even "old fashioned politics." Just the reality of knowing the system, knowing what has to be done based on contingencies and making sure that you cover all your bases effectively.
They are deciding today. So far Cruz is 12 for 12. His goal is to take all 37 and he may do it with a superior organization. This could be a harbinger of things to come in Cleveland as the 37 delegates could well be the difference that keeps Trump from 1237. Also, the way these Republicans are rejecting Trump for Cruz may be just what happens after the first ballot in Cleveland. There does not seem to be a lot of love for the Donald among the party activists.
This was expected, the party decided not to even have a poll anymore. Colorado was already confusing, now even more so. The party leaders pick, it's more than weird.
Do I really need to explain why? Cruz was splitting the conservative vote with Rubio and Carson thru the biggest part of the election. Trump wasn't fighting anyone for votes, he had his own lane all to himself that allowed him to win states with a lowly 25% of the vote while the others all split votes with each other. If this were a more traditional race with only Cruz, Trump and Kasich from the start, Cruz would be up big by now.
