Pete's announcement speech was today. He drew about 4,600 people to the old Studebaker Building where he held the announcement, and another 1,500 people who stood outside and watched on a screen, the temperature was 36 degrees today with a rain and snow mix.

ABC57 is a local news station, their reporting is quite a bit different than the national syndicates.

When speaking of Mayor Pete's presidential run:
“He worries me from a Republican standpoint,” conservative commentator Hugh Hewitt said on “Meet the Press”
--------
Mayor Pete said:
"I’ve got more experience in government than the president of the United States,”.... “I’ve got more years of executive experience than the vice president. And I have more military experience than anybody behind that desk since George H.W. Bush."

1. George W. Bush served more time in the military than he did. But I don't expect a narcissist to acknowledge that.

2. There's nothing special about running a small and largely white working class city in flyover country. Pence managed an entire state for several years and served in Congress for 12 years. Even Trump, as incompetent as he is, has managed several businesses in an executive capacity over the past 40 years.

POLITIFACT:

The younger Bush was a first lieutenant in the Texas Air National Guard from 1968 to 1973, during the Vietnam War. He was certified as a fighter pilot, but only served stateside, seeing no combat.

So, is Buttigieg’s military experience more extensive than George W. Bush’s?
Yes. The gay and married Rhodes scholar served longer in the reserves and saw active duty.... he served eight years, from 2009 to 2017, in the U.S. Navy Reserve.

POLITIFACT Ruling
Buttigieg said: "I have more military experience than anybody who’s arrived behind that desk since George H.W. Bush."
We rate Buttigieg’s statement True.

1. Buttigieg served 8 years, Bush served 6.

2. You could make that argument of any city or State that you dont deem desirable.

GWB served in active duty for 2.5 years.

Buttigieg only served in active duty for 7 months

Time in is time in. Most combat duty is for a year or less now.

Reservists have always gone into active service and then back to reserves ever since the end of WWII if there is a war going on. Most of them are called up, but there are a few, like Buttigieg, who volunteer to go active.

Going into active service does not mean a reservist goes into combat either. Most reservisists are called up to fill positions that active miitary members once filled but left when they go into combat. Filling those support roles has always been an essential element in the reserves.

Buttigieg had to volunteer twice. First to go active, and then to go into combat.
