Socialism is a pile of crap. Democratic socialism is a pile of crap with sprinkles on it.
The reason, I believe, that this socialism nonsense is getting so much attention is that the left wants to go to ridiculous extremes to be complete polar opposites of anything Pres. Trump has done or any policies he has. It is still the butt hurt mentality of the vindictive left on display.
When you look at Creepy Uncle China Joe getting 187 people to hear him stumble and mumble vs. Pres. Trump drawing 20,000+ on any given night, you really have to wonder just how they're getting these ridiculous poll numbers. If the past has taught us anything, it's that slanted liberal media polls and actual reality at the voting booth are two different things.

What "free stuff"? No one, I mean no one, has said that universal health care, affordable college, or a living wage would be free. They will all cost money; it'll be worthwhile, though, because the standard of living of all Americans will be improved.
Exactly. It isn't free, those that are successful , pay for those that aren't.
Huh? If my $8/hour job suddenly became a $16/hour job, I'd be TWICE as motivated to go to work as I was before. If you want to see an unmotivated work force that do low quality work and who don't care, pay them low subsistence wages.
Paying low wages won't bring prosperity to the nation. The middle class in the U.S. peaked in the 1960's and early 1970's, when union membership was high and wages were high as well. Average Joe in those days could afford a modest home and a car on his salary. Today Average Joe, working in the service sector, can barely afford an apartment and a bus pass.
Interesting. Maybe you should come to the Motor City and work in an auto plant. I'm sure they would love your attitude. Instead we have people making $13-$20 with benefits , and overtime that do the bare minimum. It isn't the wage that drives people, it is their ethics. Have a great positive attitude, focus on your work , whatever it may be and the money will follow.
Guess what? You as an average citizen, embrace "socialism" wholeheartedly, with enthusiasm and reverence - every single hour, every single day, every single minute you remain as a citizen of the USA. Every time you drive on a public road, every time you rely on the US military to protect our nation, every time you rely on police and fire department to protect your family and home; in fact, the prosperity and freedom that you enjoy in the USA today is in every way a product of "socialism". The very existence of our government is in fact a socialized construct.
So spare us the hypocrisy. No one is buying it.
Socialism (social programs) is a matter of degree. USA is a 2, Canada a 5, Norway a 8, Venezuela a 10
Just for reference... Samoila is a 0, just like south Chicago. Everyone is armed and out for themselves.
The clause "promote the general welfare" has been misinterpreted in my opinion. Lends itself to socialism.
"Promote" has been defined as passing legislation supported by tax revenue. I always believed promote was to encourage a social benefit by removing of barriers of ignorance, not financing it. Welfare or public financial support as an example, has proved to be a tool of economic indenturedness... and hurts people in the long run. Socialism gone wrong.
I believe it's the responsibility of the states and cities to support the general welfare.
Socialism works in small groups like Churches or Synagogues... maybe tribes or organizations bound together by a commonality of thought. You need an extremely high buy in of system belief. Fails as a one size fits all economic/political ideology where people do not agree.
Socialism will never work in The United States of America.

If Canada is a 5 I'd have to give the USA at least a 5. We may have less Socialism for people overall like health care but we have far more than Canada does for our financial markets.
The generally accepted definition of socialism is 'collective (in practice, government) ownership of the means of production. By this definition, tariffs would not be socialist. I don't think they are generally a good idea, but they're not 'socialist.'
The USPS is a good example of what is socialist--it's gov't ownership/operation of the means of production.
