Powell wasn't a state department bureaucrat. He only served a short time as Secretary of State, which is a cabinet-level appointment. The bureaucrats are the ones who staff the desks, not the ones appointed by el Presidente.

The man is a career soldier.

Mad? about what? Because Powell endorsed Obama?
I could have told you that 2 years ago, that is my point why on earth would Powell not endorse Obama?

Ahh, there it is, the "race card" card. Once I say the words "race card", all racism magically disappears.

More of his career spent at a 'desk job' than many other far more illustrious
military figures. He's actually a sleuth politician.

Oh, yes. Did you know he basked in the credit that was really rightfully Schwartzkopf's (who did the heavy lifting)?

He strikes me as an opportunist, a slick politician, looking for a new cabinet appointment.

I have heard it said that he met with McCain months ago possibly McCain did not offer him a job, Obama on the other hand is probably still shining his boots.Or Powell just might have wanted to wait and endorse the supposed winner.
I will stick to my original position Powell is just closer politically, to the democrat party.

I'm going to go ahead and be honest here and I'm sure some will call me racist, but oh well. Many white people like Colin Powell because he "acts white" and is not the stereotypical black person. Sorry, but that just can't be said of Obama since he has ties to Rev Wright and groups like ACORN. I doubt many white Powell supporters are going to vote for Obama just because of this endorsement.

Yes he was so unsuccessful that for the last 18 years (except when Rumsfeld proved-through his errors how valid it was) we've based ANY USE OF OUR MILITARY MACHINE on what is known as the "Powell Doctrine".

Too bad they didn't ask Caribou Barbie about the Powell Doctrine so she could ask;, "well, in what regard, Chaaaarlie".

He endorsed Obama so now anything that he has accomplished will be brought down to the lowest dregs that people can possible bring it too, unless he reiterates and says "Sarah Palin is the smartest person in the world and I made a mistake in endorsing Obama. McPain - Palin is the ticket." If he said that, then he would become the darling of some of these posters here.

For what it's worth, his appearance on Meet the Press was great and the things he talked about is something that I think some of the more moderate Republicans understood.

Mike Murphy was either the number one or number 2 guy in McCain's campaign. I think if he was in charge McCain might be doing a little better. At least he would have a STRATEGIC PLAN instead of the scattershot, "outrage of the day" joke that he's got now.
