See, I am in a twilight zone here - I grew up with certain understanding/perception of what those "ethnic groups" that contributed to Russian genetic make-up were, speaking of... Mordvins or Mari people. I've heard that they were somehow related to Finns, but I didn't have a clue that this "umbrella" group is much wider, and goes all the way to Siberia, including some "Khanty-Mansi people."
I just couldn't relate one to the other, like AT ALL.
But I can't get into all these details here, because Wikipedia unites them all. ( I was flabbergasted by the whole "Caucasian" umbrella" concept as well, since that was not the concept we were familiar with back in Russia.)

Right. To me they look totally *Russian,* - I didn't even know that they were some "Mordva" ppl, until my grand-mother introduced me to the *concept.*

( See, the Russians on my paternal side were like Maxim - all-inclusive, when it comes to different ethnicities, living among Russians. They couldn't care less.
The Russians on my MATERNAL side were a different story. Don't ask. )

Have no idea. Looks like an awfully mixed bunch to me, sort of like "Tatars."
(When people look that mixed, it logically indicates, I guess, that they don't have any "single" origin, but come as the "unification" (voluntary or not) of few different ethnic groups. ( Just my guess.)

Agree, agree.
I just couldn't go into all these details, so thanks for expanding this subject for me here.
Good thing that Finland was not one of the USSR republics. Could have taken with it the whole 'umbrella" all the way to Ural mountains. Theoretically. In 1991.

P.S. That reminds me. Where is Ariete?

Stop. Finno-Ugrics is language family. Like Indo-Europeans.

I have a typical Slavic appearance. Perhaps little Finno-Ugric a few generations ago (my home region is the area where the Merya lived).

I kind of look on humans as dogs. There's a large variety of dog breeds both domestic and wild and humans seem to be the same way. Dobermen Pincers may look different from Rottweilers but they're both members of the genus Canus. Japanese look different from Europeans but they're still Homo Sapiens Sapiens.

Except for the politicans. They're Homo Reptilus Idioticus. Not evenclose to my kind of people.

Oh, I see. I love dogs (more than some people). And, may I ask - what breed are you?

They're claiming that there was enough Novichok nerve agent found to kill the entire town of Salisbury UK.

Novichok Chemical Weapon Developer Says Half a Cup Would Have Killed Skripal and Entire Town

It appears the government and the news media is going for shock value without considering that this information calls for the impact to have been more widespread and rapidly lethal than the actual incident.

As for Finns- it is not I know it very well but what I have heard Finns are actually not very keen on those Russia's Finno-Ugric peoples. From what I have heard they look towards eastern Finno-Ugrians such as Mordvin, Mari and others mostly as some (special) variety of Russians.
Maybe it is motivated even as contemporary Finns living in Finland are not fully Finno-Ugrics either, as they are rather sort of "Finno-Germanics" there.

Well, yes, very true. This is the reason why eg I am not keen on nationalist agendas.

Nationalism is a tool used by government's to control populations. The fact that we're all human beings rarely enters the picture.
